The director shot up from his chair.
"Landon Sinclair? You've got to be kidding me."
He quickly wracked his brain, trying to think if there was anyone in the entertainment industry with that name. After a moment, he realized there wasn't.
He looked up at his assistant and asked, "So what did you say to him on the phone?"
The assistant gulped, lowered his head, and answered truthfully, "Pretty much what you just said."
The director was speechless.
He was holding back a litany of curses.
The assistant said defensively, "The guy on the phone sounded exactly like a telemarketer from a pyramid scheme! Besides, I never would have imagined Landon Sinclair would want to be on our show."
Even though their show was state-sponsored, this was Landon Sinclair they were talking about.

And no one had ever heard of him having any interest in appearing on television shows.
