After a wild night, Felix Preston woke up at his usual time the next day.
Sonia Quincy was still asleep, so he moved quietly, careful not to wake her.
After washing up and preparing a steaming hot breakfast, he was just about to head back to the room to wake Sonia Quincy when she woke up on her own.
"It smells so good. Did you make congee?" Sonia Quincy asked, her eyes still hazy with sleep. Her voice was still hoarse.
Felix Preston walked over from the dining table. His heart soared the moment he saw the red marks on Sonia Quincy's neck.
"I made some congee with greens and lean pork, but I'm not sure how it tastes." He took Sonia Quincy's hand and led her to the bathroom to wash up.
"Here, time to brush your teeth." He squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush and thoughtfully held it out to her.
Sonia Quincy took it, feeling for the first time that brushing her teeth was an awkward chore. It was because Felix Preston was standing right there, watching her.
