SLAM!
The delivery room door slammed shut, and Sonia Quincy vanished from Felix Preston's sight.
THUD!
All strength left Felix Preston in an instant, and he collapsed wretchedly to his knees.
"Brother!"
Lynn Preston rushed forward in tears, trying to pull Felix Preston up from the floor, but he violently shook her hand away.
"Don't touch me..." He knelt limply before the delivery room door, every ounce of his energy drained by an emotion called fear, leaving him pale and frail.
His usually ramrod-straight back was now slumped over, as if he could no longer weather any storm. And yet, he refused to collapse completely, still stubbornly guarding something precious.
"Brother..." Lynn Preston crouched beside him, wiping away her tears. "Please get up and wait."
"..." Felix Preston was too drained to speak. He could only give a weak shake of his head in refusal.
