He kept checking his phone every few moments.
Nina Donovan watched him, puzzled. "Why do you keep staring at that stupid phone? Come take this lunch box, it's killing me."
Jasper Sherwood put his phone away, well aware that this was just Nina Donovan having one of her princess fits.
He took the lunch box from her, shooting her a sidelong glance. "If I'm not looking at my phone, what am I supposed to look at? You, ma'am?"
Nina froze for three seconds, then erupted in fury. "Oh, so now you're resorting to insults!"

He tried to explain, "I said 'ma'am'."
