Accompanying the police was Nina Donovan's uncle, Mason Sutton.
When he saw his daughter caked in mud from head to toe, a large gash on her forehead, his eyes instantly reddened with distress.
"Tara, Dad's late. You've been through so much. Come, give your dad a hug!"
He opened his arms to embrace her, but Tara Sutton pushed him aside and ran toward Nina Donovan. "SOB... Cousin, are you okay? I was so scared."
The moment Mason Sutton saw Nina Donovan, his face fell, and his voice jumped a few pitches. "Nina? What are you doing here?!"
He'd received a call from the police informing him that his daughter had been kidnapped by a murderer.
He had nearly fainted from shock and hadn't dared tell the grandparents or Tara Sutton's mother. The news would have surely given the old folks a heart attack.
