Chapter 36 - Lalitha's first task

Transferring money out of India was a huge issue during these times, Even though there were special relations between India and Russia in terms of trade it still required numerous permissions which would take weeks to get through.

With the transaction Vladimir proposed this problem would be solved very easily, Nevertheless he had to get his own export license since the transaction was no longer small and he was no longer acting as a broker.

Arjun accepted the proposal and asked Vladimir to inform him once the shipment was on the way. It would take at least forty days for the shipment to reach India considering the negotiations just finished Arjun assumed it would at least take one and half month for the machinery to reach India.

This was probably going to a problem, the final exams usually finished in first week of April. He hoped the delivery would be delayed by a bit so he could be there to receive it. Even though he had immense trust in Bhargav and Lalitha it was better to be safe than sorry.

His dad was also too straight of guy to work around in the port. If something goes wrong Arjun could get out bribing his way through but it would be different case if it was his father.

When Arjun put down his phone and turned around everyone in the house were staring at him expecting him to say what went on.

Every time Arjun spoke with Vladimir in Russian he would appear as a different person in front of them. Perhaps it's because of the language or his change of tone but the entire house notices the change and pester him about his conversation. Especially his sister who wanted him to teach the language to her.

Arjun did not know whether to laugh or cry, sister you don't even spend enough time studying Telugu how are you going to learn Russian he wondered. But still seeing the pleading expression on her face he could not reject her.

He did not accept it either, whenever she wanted to learn he would just teach her a couple of words and make her repeat them. Whether this would be useful or not he did not really know.

He explained them what had transpired on the call, that Vladimir had successfully negotiated the deal for fifteen lakh Rupees and the request Vladimir made to him.

Lalitha who was sitting in the same room was shocked.

What did this kid say?

Purchasing machinery for fifteen lakhs?

Even the previous poultry she worked at would cost two lakhs at the most.

What could be worth so much money she wondered. Anyway he would come to learn soon enough as she was his secretary, she reasoned and let it go.

When Arjun informed them about the trade proposal she was even more surprised.

A export deal of eighteen lakhs was no small matter, it would need many permissions and proper documents for international transactions Pratap reminded Arjun.

It's still better than trying to transfer the money ourselves right now no? Arjun mentioned.

This convinced Pratap and he just went on with his work wondering how much would this mischievous kid scam that guy out of those eighteen lakhs.

Lalitha meanwhile was starting to admire Arjun and his connections. Even at ten years old he was so much better, had she known about his father's thoughts at the same time it would be an interesting expression to watch.

This time Arjun wanted Lalitha to take up the task of registering a export company. Even though going through Madan might shorten the time required to start one, she would need to start gaining experience in these stuff at some point and the earlier the better.

When Arjun mentioned this to Lalitha she was happy but did not really know where to start. Just a moment ago she was lamenting about not having anything to do and now she had work but did not know how to do it. It was then that Arjun asked her to seek help from Bhargav which gave her a way out.

Next day Bhargav and Lalitha went to town together to start the registration process as well as deliver another ten thousand copies of All in Ones to the union, even though the order was for twenty thousand copies, they were only able to print ten thousand in the past five days and felt it was better to deliver them first to avoid any delays.

When Tharun came to know that they were only delivering ten thousand copies he did not mind, They were on course to sell seven thousand copies this week and the new shipment came just in time. He placed order of another ten thousand copies other than the already placed order as the exams were only a month away and the sales were still picking up.

Tharun wanted the press to ship as soon as they printed the books in the next two weeks. This was their crunch time and would decide whether they get a share of four rupees or six rupees which was a huge difference for the union.

He only handed cheque of two lakh rupees to Bhargav as the payment for rest two thousand books had not yet arrived at the union. Bhargav and Lalitha together went to the registration office to apply for a export permit.

This time it would probably take at least a week or two for the permits to get processed as they were going on their own Bhargav informed Arjun before coming over to the town. Of course it was this fast because of the corruption involved.

He taught Lalitha on how to fill various forms and even though she struggled at first she quickly caught on and even wanted Bhargav to walk her through bank procedures once they were done at the registration office.

Bhargav took her to visit the new design studio which Sumanth had rented just a day ago. It was a medium sized warehouse just a fifteen minute walk away from their campus. They had chosen this place as this was the only considerably large space available for rent nearby their campus costing two thousand five hundred rupees in rent per month.

Sumanth did not like to work in a cramped space and neither did his friends and when he explained his decision to Arjun, he was given the green light and so he went with it.

Even though Arjun felt this rent was too much, considering it was near a town and a college campus he was not too dissatisfied. What he wanted was maximum productivity from these kids, if they liked large spaces let them work in them he convinced himself.

But spending over two thousand for rent on a new studio while he still lives in the same home was depressing for Arjun.

They went ahead to the bank where Bhargav taught her how to deposit money through checks into company account and then taking out the money. Then they proceeded to their previous material dealer at the printing workshop's colony and bought printing materials worth one lakh fifty thousand rupees.

When Arjun received them back at the village in the evening seeing their visibly exhausted face he let them return to their houses while he accompanied the delivery to the press.

Mallesh Yadav informed Arjun that with this batch of materials they probably could last until the end of exam season.

After returning home Arjun proceeded to play a with Sari for a while before having his dinner.

Lalitha who helped in the cooking chores past few days finally started cooking on her own and invited the family for a house warming feast. While they were enjoying the food Kavitha was regretting that she would no longer have a helper in the kitchen.

Even if it was only for two days, having an extra hand inside kitchen helped her a lot and decreased her work considerably. But she understood this was Arjun's assistant and not their maid, having her help out once or twice would be okay but using her everyday would be exploitation.

The next day went on pretty normally as this was Saturday and not many teachers were into teaching on the day before weekend his school day went on much faster, at least this was what Arjun felt.

He wanted to go out on a family picnic the next day as this was the first time he had not gone to the town after his rebirth on a weekend. He wanted to use this time to properly spend some time with the family and felt it would be a perfect excuse to catch some break.

When he returned to his home and expressed his idea everyone was excited except Pratap. Taking these kids out on a picnic was always a hectic day for him. While Kavitha loved spending such time with her kids, for Pratap even though he did like the idea, the execution was a completely different thing as he had to become the goods carrier for the family the entire day.

He was relieved though when Arjun wanted to take along Bhargav and Lalitha as he would have extra pair of hands to help him.
