Chi Wan didn't know what kind of dark moment Li Xingye had just experienced. Just hearing his usual gentle voice inexplicably put her in a good mood.
She excitedly shared the plants and seeds she bought today with Li Xingye. "Besides the Fragrant Vine, I also got thorns! If they dare to come looking for trouble again, I'll let the thorn bushes prick them until they're squealing and yelping~"
Just imagining the scene made Chi Wan laugh out loud. Her tone was light as she said, "Oh, right, I also bought a bunch of seeds. You can see if any of them are useful, okay?"
Li Xingye signaled for Qiangzi and the others to rescue the imprisoned ordinary people, while he replied to Chi Wan with a smile, "Alright. It's a shame that no matter what plant I use my power on, it becomes poisonous. I can only use them as weapons."
Hearing this, Chi Wan asked curiously, "Then what plant is the most useful for you?"
Out of the corner of his eye, Li Xingye glanced at the remaining Lixiao Flowers. Having absorbed enough blood, they looked even more vibrant.
After a long silence, he finally said in a low voice, "For me, there's no difference."
'They're all just tools for killing.'
For some reason, Li Xingye didn't want to say that last part to Chi Wan.
But to Chi Wan, Li Xingye's words meant that with his superpower, he could use any plant.
So she praised him generously, "Is this the confidence of a top-tier superpower user? You're so strong~"
Perhaps sincerity is always the ultimate weapon. Their conversation was completely on different wavelengths, but it somehow struck a chord with Li Xingye. He was stunned for a moment, then covered his face and let out a low laugh.
To Chi Wan, it was the happy smile of someone who was praised.
But to Qiangzi and the others, it was like watching a ghost story. After all, just a minute ago, the pressure radiating from Li Xingye was so low it felt like he was about to kill someone, yet now he was inexplicably laughing...
Qiangzi shivered, goosebumps rising on his skin, and whispered, "Even though those bastards at Wildfire Base are inhuman, it shouldn't be enough to make our Brother Ye so mad he loses his mind, right?"
Cheng Peng looked at Li Xingye, who seemed to have relaxed completely, and said doubtfully, "I don't think he's angry."
Haozi nodded as well. "No, look, Brother Ye's killing intent is gone... Could it be that the Space God made a move?"
Qiangzi had a sudden realization. "That's right! I almost forgot about that. Did the God send us more food? Hey, I gotta say, we really have the Space God to thank. Otherwise, we..."
Seemingly understanding Qiangzi's unfinished sentence, Cheng Peng's expression turned very serious. "Qiangzi, remember this. Even without the Space God, we would never become like those people from Wildfire Base."
Haozi looked at Li Xingye, whose expression had returned to normal, and said softly, "Yeah. Otherwise, we wouldn't have followed Brother Ye in the first place."
We certainly wouldn't have followed him out of the base to find food.
Li Xingye and Chi Wan agreed to try and see if they could save the fruit trees in a little while. When he turned around, he saw Qiangzi and the other two huddled together, whispering about something.
He didn't pay them any mind and walked straight over. "Take these people back to the base, and have Sister Zhang come over to receive the new supplies. The three of you will supervise the entire food distribution process. Make sure there's no trouble. I need to go out for a bit."
Hearing Li Xingye's words, Qiangzi and the other two exchanged a look and grinned. "Don't you worry, Brother Ye. We'll handle everything, clear as day. You just go ahead and keep the Space God happy."
Li Xingye cursed at them with a laugh but didn't refute it, and walked right out of Wildfire Base.
Chi Wan had said she'd be home in about half an hour. Eating a meal and then going up the mountain would take at least an hour to an hour and a half. So, he decided to use this time to make a trip to the abandoned town between the two bases—it was the territory of a Sixth-tier Zombie, and he remembered there was a bank inside.
A Sixth-tier Zombie already possessed considerable intelligence. It knew who it could afford to provoke and who it couldn't.
It had always kept to itself and never confronted Li Xingye head-on. It was hard to say whether that was because it sensed the dangerous aura around him or simply because it thought Li Xingye would starve to death sooner or later, so there was no need to rush.
As for why Li Xingye hadn't been willing to provoke this Sixth-tier Zombie before, there was only one reason: he was too hungry, which affected his performance.
Since he was going to help Chi Wan find more valuable things, a trip to the abandoned city was a must. He might as well clear out the zombies there while he was at it.
He could also test a theory he had about the space.
The highway into the city was long since dilapidated. Cars were strewn about haphazardly, and any bloodstains had long been covered by wind and sand. Only a few scattered zombies could be seen wandering aimlessly nearby.
Li Xingye didn't drive. At his level, as long as he had enough energy, flying through the sky and tunneling through the earth was no problem.
He casually cleaned up those zombies, but instead of rushing to put the collected Zombie Crystal Cores into his space, he put them all into his backpack.
After entering the city, he didn't immediately go looking for the Sixth-tier Zombie. Instead, he unwrapped a piece of chocolate, letting the overly luxurious, sweet flavor slowly melt on his tongue.
When he finished the chocolate, a zombie nearly two meters tall appeared silently before him.
If not for its pale, bluish face and the livor mortis spots, this zombie would have looked no different from an ordinary person!
"We... have always coexisted peacefully... Why have you, come looking for me."
The zombie's voice was slightly hoarse, but it could already communicate normally with people. It was hard not to worry—if it upgraded to the Seventh Rank, could zombies then blend into a crowd?
Li Xingye carefully folded the chocolate wrapper and put it in his pocket before he said unhurriedly, "To kill you."
The zombie looked coldly at the lone Li Xingye and actually sneered. "Courting... death."
As it finished speaking, without any visible movement from it, a dense horde of zombies instantly surrounded Li Xingye.
Among this horde, Third and Fourth Rank zombies were everywhere. There were even two Fifth Rank zombies!
"Since... you delivered yourself to my door, then, I'll gladly accept." The Sixth-tier Zombie hovered in mid-air, looking down at the besieged Li Xingye with eyes full of desire. "As long as I eat you... I can upgrade..."
However, despite being surrounded by so many zombies, Li Xingye's face showed not a trace of fear.
He looked up at the Sixth-tier Zombie and chuckled. Although he didn't speak, the mockery was particularly glaring.
The expression on the zombie's face changed slightly. It seemed to have sensed something, and its first reaction was to flee!
But it was too late.
The last thing it saw was a sea of flowers, blooming instantly as far as the eye could see.
Layer upon layer, blooming in their utmost splendor, they were so vivid against the backdrop of gray-black branches and the grotesque horde of zombies that it was almost bizarre.
With an indignant roar, the Sixth-tier Zombie fell from the sky, crashing into the ever-blooming thicket of flowers.
"Impossible, you... how could you have... its..."
It stretched its neck, staring deathlessly at Li Xingye, a gurgle of "HURK... HURK..." in its throat, as if it still wanted to say something.
But reflected in Li Xingye's cold eyes, it finally turned to ash, unwilling to the end.
