Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: The Twins and the Strange Phenomenon

Dan stood composed atop a small, artificial elevation in the center of the sprawling garden, an emerald expanse adorned with every conceivable variety of flora. Rare blossoms of vibrant hues, lush green shrubbery, and fragrant herbs were arranged with geometric precision. Surrounding him in a comfortable, respectful silence were his twelve wives—the entirety of his inner circle.

Ren, Kali, Hina, Nanami, Aoi, Yuna, Shizuka... none spoke. They simply absorbed the panorama before them with warm, lingering smiles. They watched their youngest children and grandchildren—all under the age of five—playing with unbridled joy. The little ones raced through the grass, laughing, stumbling only to rise again, chasing one another with toys and balls. The innocent, melodic echoes of their laughter filled the air, a sound that fell upon the ears of the adults like a beautiful symphony.

For Dan's wives, the sight of their lineage thriving filled their hearts with a profound sense of pride and contentment. This vast, happy family was their collective achievement. Even for Dan—a man of a naturally cold, reclusive disposition, perpetually occupied by rigorous training and complex research—the moment was irresistible. A small, genuine, and warm smile graced his lips as he observed the innocent happiness of his bloodline.

"Beautiful," he murmured. A single word, yet heavy with sincerity.

When his wives heard this brief commendation, their smiles widened, radiating a deeper warmth. They looked at him with unmistakable devotion. To them, seeing him satisfied—even with a slight smile—was their highest priority. He was the center of their universe; pleasing him meant more than almost anything else. It was this singular devotion that had driven them to continue bearing children throughout the long decades. Even now, they welcomed new life every two or three years, knowing Dan cherished the expansion of his progeny and the continuation of his lineage. It was their ultimate expression of love, and he acknowledged it with silent gratitude.

After a few moments of quiet observation, Dan turned abruptly toward Ren, his first wife, who stood at his side. Her abdomen was prominently swollen; she was in her ninth month, on the verge of labor. He looked at her belly, then into her eyes, and spoke with calm directness.

"It seems your time has come."

Before Ren could process his words or offer a response, a sharp, rhythmic contraction seized her. Her eyes widened, and she clutched her abdomen. "Ah..."

Before she could utter another sound, Dan moved. With a swift, fluid motion, he swept her into his arms—one arm beneath her knees, the other supporting her back. The suddenness of the gesture caused her face to flush crimson; to be carried like this, so unceremoniously before the entire family! Without a word of warning, he vanished from the spot.

It was nearly instantaneous. He reappeared within the dedicated birthing suite—a spacious, pristine room equipped for the occasion. His daughters, Sophia and Lena, had already prepared everything with meticulous care: clean linens, warm water, and soft cloths. He placed Ren gently upon the comfortable bed and looked at his daughters.

"I leave the rest to you."

He turned and exited the room, closing the door firmly behind him. He stood in the corridor, leaning his back against the wall with his arms folded, waiting with disciplined patience.

Inside the room, Lena teased her mother with a playful grin. "Still blushing from Father carrying you, Mother? You look like a young girl in the first throes of love." She chuckled softly.

Ren, her face still tinged with pink, offered a mock-stern rebuke amidst the pain. "Are you mocking your mother, you disobedient girl?" She smiled despite the contractions. The lighthearted banter served its purpose, thinning the veil of tension.

Outside, Dan remained motionless. He was particularly expectant regarding this birth, for it marked a milestone: the first time one of his wives would deliver twins. He had detected the presence of two distinct heartbeats early in the pregnancy. While he possessed the ability to discern the gender of his unborn children with absolute certainty, he never did so. He preferred the natural element of surprise—a small but significant pleasure in his life. Boy or girl? He would know only when he held them.

After roughly thirty minutes of silent vigil, the sharp, powerful cry of a newborn pierced the silence of the corridor. The first child was born, healthy and vocal. Dan exhaled a long-held, hidden breath of relief. Minutes later, a second cry joined the first—the second twin had arrived. Both were safe.

A profound sense of relief settled in his heart. Everything had proceeded according to plan. But as he moved to enter the room to see the infants, a strange and jarring sensation arrested him.

Through his heightened senses and deep connection to the world's energies, Dan felt a violent shift in the atmosphere. The Natural Energy in the air began to surge with an unnatural intensity. It was flowing, swirling, and concentrating with a focal point that made his heart race.

It was converging on the room. It was centering on the newborns.

Immediately, his guard surged to its absolute peak. His eyes sharpened to a predatory focus, and his body tensed in a stance of total readiness.

What was this? Why was the Natural Energy reacting so aggressively? What was the connection between his children and this phenomenon? Was it a threat, or a natural occurrence beyond his current understanding? Questions fired through his mind with the speed of a lightning strike. One thing was certain: something monumental and unprecedented was happening.

And he had to understand it—now.
