"Alright. Now that you've learned part of the fundamentals of my family's Fūinjutsu style, it's time for the technique I want you to learn."
Thorn spoke to Shinji Hinako, who stood before him in the open clearing that had become their daily training ground. A small, sharp claw emerged from the ring on his finger, and with a horizontal motion through the air, he tore open a small rift. A gray-colored opening appeared, revealing an empty space beyond. Thorn reached his hand into the gray rift and pulled out a rolled parchment scroll.
"First, read the technique written inside this scroll. After that, we'll move on to practical training, and I'll explain it to you thoroughly."
She accepted the scroll from him.
"Yes, Master."
In truth, the reason events had reached this point in Thorn's journey and developed in a way he had never originally planned was the result of a chain of consecutive events that had begun the moment he rescued the warriors of this village from certain death at the hands of the stone puppet army. After saving the village from the first assault, they welcomed him among them, and through his conversations with Shinji and the village elders, he learned that the person responsible for this entire catastrophe was one of their own villagers who had made contact with an evil entity. Because of that, he agreed to remain and help them perform the sealing ritual they intended to carry out against that sinister being.
One of the reasons he agreed to help was that the people of this village seemed genuinely kind. The second and far more decisive in his eyes was that they were willing to take responsibility for the damage one of their own had inflicted upon the world. To Thorn, that attitude carried real meaning in his understanding of humanity's contradictory nature, suspended between good and evil.
Then his father Dan's message arrived, reshaping the course of events in a far more specific way than Thorn had expected. Dan instructed him to help them, but with one crucial condition: Hinako must not use her own village's Fūinjutsu style during the sealing process.
By its very nature, that style would inflict severe and possibly permanent damage upon the evil entity. Dan explained that he would need this demonic being for greater plans he had for the future of this world. Therefore, he ordered Thorn to teach them a sealing method from the Walt family's Fūinjutsu techniques instead, allowing them to complete the sealing while achieving the desired objective without causing the damage Dan wished to avoid.
Although the technique Thorn intended to teach her was not among the family's strongest Fūinjutsu techniques, when compared to anything that existed in the outside world, it was overwhelmingly powerful. At this point in history, it could very well be the strongest Fūinjutsu technique in existence.
As a result, Thorn had no choice but to remain in the village long enough to train Hinako and prepare her to perform the sealing correctly. Thus, the days began to pass in this place that had never been part of his original travel plans. Every morning he devoted himself to teaching Hinako the foundations of the Walt family's Fūinjutsu in a systematic manner. During the rest of the day, he also trained the village's warriors, raising their overall combat ability and strengthening their skills, because he had realized that the sealing ritual would not proceed smoothly unless capable warriors were present to deal with whatever unforeseen circumstances might arise.
So Thorn gradually spent his days among this warm and humble village. Though simple in appearance and structure, it possessed a spirit of unity and mutual support that distinguished it from every other place he had visited throughout his journey.
It was something he silently observed and stored within his memory as another piece of his growing understanding of human nature in both of its aspects. Evil was not the only thing he had witnessed during this journey, even though he had seen more than enough of it. He had also seen this other quality . something difficult to define with a single word, yet undeniably present within the people of this small village.
He looked toward the girl named Hinako as she carefully unrolled the scroll and began reading it with complete concentration. Then he turned his gaze toward the training field, where several warriors were practicing the techniques he had taught them. Days like these had never been part of the journey he had imagined when he first left the family estate, yet he found that he did not dislike them at all.
