Chapter 285 - Chapter 285 : Fatal Mistake

The Lone Death Wolf fixed his glowing yellow eyes upon his opponent's body, which appeared to be on the verge of breaking beneath his overwhelming power. Yet he showed no reaction to the sight no smile of victory, no look of mockery, not even a trace of hidden satisfaction. Instead, he intensified his assault with even greater ferocity. The weakness displayed by his enemy only served as further motivation to finish her as quickly as possible.

The black aura advancing toward Sophia accelerated, its momentum multiplying until it extinguished every remaining trace of crimson light. Soon, her entire body was engulfed in darkness, swallowed completely within the jaws of that black hell.

At that very moment, however, Sophia slowly opened her cold eyes. There was neither fear nor panic within them, only a piercing brilliance of absolute concentration. Through the wall of black aura that surrounded her and continuously drained her life, she stared directly at the Lone Death Wolf.

That single gaze caused the instincts he had honed over hundreds of thousands of years ,the instincts that had saved him from countless schemes and deadly dangers throughout the ages to erupt in violent warning. Every fiber of his being screamed of imminent death, as though an immense bell were tolling within his soul. The fur covering his body stood on end, his pupils widened in horror, and he suddenly realized that the victory he believed was within reach had been nothing more than an illusion. His seemingly defeated opponent had been leading him into a perfectly crafted trap.

Without hesitation, he attempted to gather the full power of his Path of Death and redirect it toward himself, preparing a counterattack powerful enough to repel the approaching doom. Beings of their level could not afford even the slightest mistake in a decisive battle such as this, for the price would be immeasurably great. This was not merely a clash of bodies it was a battle of concepts.

His fatal mistake lay in failing to realize quickly enough that the shrinking of Sophia's crimson aura was not a sign of weakness, but rather the concentration of all her power into a single point. By the time he understood, it was already far too late. Evading the attack that was coming had become utterly impossible.

He lowered his gaze toward his chest, where he felt the razor-sharp blade piercing straight through his black heart. As the sword began to shatter the very Path he had cultivated, he immediately understood that he had been utterly defeated, and that all that remained for him was the inevitable fall from the summit into the abyss the end of his legend.

So, before his Path completely collapsed and his soul scattered into dust, he unleashed from the depths of his being a wild, iconic lupine howl that gathered every ounce of despair, rage, and refusal into a single cry.

"Awooooooooooooooo!"

The howl shook the very foundations of the Outer Continent. Mountains cracked beneath its resonance, and the hearts of every living creature trembled under the overwhelming terror it carried.

At the very same moment that the deafening howl echoed across the world, the immense black aura accumulated within his body burst outward all at once, spreading across the land as colossal storm-like clouds. Portions of it descended into forests inhabited by gigantic beasts, others fell upon cities, some seeped into dark caverns, while others infiltrated underground rivers.

Every living creature that came into contact with that black aura began to rot at an alarming speed. Flesh decayed into shredded strands, blood dried up, bones twisted and deformed. Yet the most horrifying part was that none of them truly died. Instead, they entered a grotesque state suspended between life and death, denied both the peace of oblivion and the blessing of life. Their limbs continued to move without consciousness, driven only by cursed instinct.

Thus, throughout countless scattered regions of the Outer Continent, countless nests of horror were born. They became inhabited by beings trapped between life and death zombies, skeletal undead, intelligent liches that had retained their minds while losing their souls, and countless other abominations born from the Lone Death Wolf's final howl.

And so the legendary battle came to its end, leaving behind an inheritance of ruin and death that would endure for countless ages.
