"Die, human king!"
The voice was like thunder, roaring and deafening as it filled the entire horizon. It did not belong to any ordinary creature, but to a gigantic white dragon whose enormous wings were large enough to cover the sky, its white scales glittering like snow beneath the sunlight, while its golden eyes burned with murderous fury.
Then it opened its enormous mouth and unleashed a pure white wave of light, large enough to swallow an entire city, aiming directly at the heart of the capital of the Kingdom of the Lake.
Sera stood where she was and prepared to block it, because dodging was not an option. If she moved sideways or retreated, that wave would erase everything behind her. She gripped her broad sword with both hands and stepped forward.
As the attack rapidly approached, she raised her sword high and then struck directly at the wave, attempting to split it in half while exerting every ounce of strength she possessed. Her muscles tensed like ropes, the veins in her neck bulged under the pressure of her strength, and her teeth clenched together as she pushed with everything she had, screaming from the depths of her heart at the top of her voice:
"Haaaaaah!"
Her voice burst out like a thunderbolt, blending with the roar of the sword as it tore through the white wave. Indeed, the wave began splitting apart before the edge of her sword, with one half being diverted toward the left and the other toward the right, as though a mountain of snow had been divided by a gigantic blade.
Boom
Boom
The sound of explosions rang out as the two halves of the wave crashed into the ground on either side of her, creating two enormous craters and devastating shockwaves that swept across the vast wilderness surrounding the battlefield. The hills and small forests that had stood there were destroyed, rocks were hurled in every direction, and thick white smoke spread throughout the horizon.
But Sera did not stop after merely splitting the attack. After managing to create an opening in that powerful wave, another sharp attack erupted from her sword and shot toward the gigantic white dragon.
The white dragon, Albion, had never expected any attack to reach him. He had been certain that his attack would kill the Knight King and destroy her capital at the same time. But Sera's sword was faster, and the attack unleashed from it pierced through his hard white scales, inflicting a massive and deep wound from which red blood immediately began to flow.
"Graaaaaaah!"
The white dragon screamed in pain and twisted his enormous body in the air, rapidly ascending higher and moving away from Sera. Then, as he retreated into the sky, he looked at her with eyes filled with both hatred and humiliation and spoke in his thunderous voice, which still carried the pain and fury within him:
"I will remember this, human king. The day I kill you is not far away, and you will regret every moment you have lived after today."
After saying those words, he vanished like a streak of white light into the horizon, leaving behind a cloud of dust and smoke.
As for Sera, after exhausting all of her strength in that defensive attack and her counterattack, she felt as though her body had become completely empty, as if her bones had turned into sand and her muscles had melted beneath the weight of exhaustion. She suddenly dropped to one knee, her sword trembling in her hand as she struggled to catch her breath:
"Hah... hah... hah..."
Her breathing was broken and rapid, because in truth, she had exhausted every bit of her strength today. Not only in the final battle against the white dragon, Albion, but before that she had fought a long and exhausting battle against the Mother Witch, who had surrounded her capital.
The combined assault that the Mother Witch and the dragon had devised together had been intended to exhaust her before launching their final attack, and their plan had succeeded partially, because she could now barely stand on her feet. Many of her followers, knights, and citizens had fallen in this war, devastating losses unlike anything the Kingdom of the Lake had suffered since its founding.
Sera supported her exhausted body with her broad sword, leaning against it as she slowly rose from her knee. Her legs were trembling, but she refused to let herself collapse. She looked toward her soldiers, who were watching her with concern, and nodded to them.
Then she vanished from her position at tremendous speed, because she wanted to check on her loyal friend, the red dragon Pendragon, who had been with her since the earliest days and had helped her establish this kingdom, and who had suffered a fatal injury in this war while fighting alongside her against the enemy forces. Now, her heart was pounding with fear, because she knew that his life might be hanging by a thread.
