Chapter 18 - Assuming & Date

SASHA ROSARIO'S POINT OF VIEW

A blessed morning to everyone!

"Hmmm!" My eyes are still closed as I stretch my body. I'm still lying down because I just woke up—and honestly, I had no plans to get up at all.

I hear birds calling outside, plus the sound of waves crashing against the shore not far from us. The weather looks perfect for a swim today even though it's still early.

I also hear someone chopping wood outside so I open my eyes and sit up. I glance at the spot beside me and grin from ear to ear when I see Angelo is already gone.

"Wow, he must be really hardworking?" I say with raised eyebrows while rubbing the cool space where he slept. He must have gotten up ages ago.

I giggle to myself before standing up. God must really love me. He gave me an instant husband who's incredibly handsome!

When I open the door the view outside takes my breath away. This island really is a beautiful place to live—the tall trees and lush green surroundings are easy on the eyes.

Life is good too because hot fresh bread rolls are already laid out for me this early.

I sit on the small steps just below our door. My legs are spread wide while my attention shifts between my delicious breakfast—and my delicious husband!

Angelo is not far away. He's chopping firewood for our cooking stove. I can see every time his biceps flex when he lifts the axe in his hand.

"Kyaaah, this is amazing!" I whisper behind my hand so he won't hear me too clearly.

But Angelo has sharp senses because he turns to look at me without warning.

My eyes widen a little and I sit up properly. I wipe the corner of my mouth because I swear I feel drool threatening to spill out.

Angelo sets down his axe then walks toward me. I feel like jumping for joy I'm so flustered.

How can he do this to me? He's walking shirtless, sweat streaming down his chest and abs! He wipes his brow with a white towel and keeps his eyes fixed on me the whole time.

Angelo really! Do you want me to melt right here from all this excitement?!

"Good morning, wife." He greets me when he reaches me and my face burns hot as fire when he kisses my lips.

"G-Good morning, Angelo." I greet him back and can't look directly into his eyes.

"How did you sleep? You were out for a long time."

My brow furrows immediately at his words. "Long time? It's still so early—"

"It's already 9 a.m." He cuts me off and I grimace.

Nine o'clock already?! How embarrassing—I slept so late!

He must see me blushing because he puts his hand on my head and ruffles my hair.

"Don't worry, I already washed and cooked the rice. But I haven't made the main dish yet because I chopped wood first. Would it be okay if you cook?"

I nod quickly again and again. I feel almost blinded by how handsome and kind this man is—this unexpected husband of mine.

"Absolutely! I'll do the cooking." I say a little too loudly and he looks surprised—as do I.

I'm such a fool Sasha! Why are you shouting?!

I tell him I'll be right back then go inside the house. I need to shower first because I probably look like I've been dragged through hell! There might still be drool on my face for all I know.

I move quickly while I wash up and find myself thinking.

Angelo... he really is husband material. Ever since his wounds healed, I barely lift a finger around the house. He does almost everything—even the laundry now. That's why I threw away my underwear with holes in it before he could wash them and see.

It's been nearly a month since we started living together. Every day is happy and full of surprises. There's not a single day he doesn't make me laugh. It's nice to see him slowly adapting to life here. I feel a little guilty because he's gotten darker from going fishing with Junior. Meanwhile I keep working for Aling Minda like always.

Our relationship status isn't exactly clear but people here treat us like husband and wife. I can't really deny it either—not with how we act together behind closed doors.

But... even I want some clarity now.

We both know how unusual our meeting and relationship have been. Especially me—I know Angelo wasn't supposed to end up here.

When I think about it I'm just lucky. Out of all the shoreline on this island—he washed up right here, and came into my house.

Right? I guess fate really did bring us together.

"Hmm, this is delicious."

I feel butterflies in my stomach when I hear Angelo praise my adobo.

"Oh stop it! It's nothing special." I giggle while tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.

Oh Angelo, if you only knew how much you affect me. I wasn't like this before but you make me feel like I'm losing my mind.

Could it be... that I really love you now?

I bite my lower lip while thinking deeply. So many thoughts have been running through my head these past few days.

I want... I want us to have a proper, clear relationship.

I know his situation isn't ideal. I know he can't remember anything—but he chose to stay here with me anyway.

Does that mean... he feels something for me too?

I shake my head and slap my own cheek lightly. Good God! Stop assuming things Sasha!

I sigh deeply but freeze when I reach for more adobo in the bowl. I notice Angelo is just staring at me and hasn't touched his food yet.

"W-Why?" I ask nervously. Did he suddenly realize how ugly I really am?! I'm doomed!

He smiles. "Nothing, you just look so cute when you're daydreaming."

Daydreaming... My brain literally floats off into space imagining what his words could mean. I almost bang my head against the wall just to make all these thoughts stop.

"W-What are you talking about?" I force a laugh and shake my head. "Eat up! The weather's nice today so I can take you to town." I smile at him.

He freezes in his seat and stops mid-bite.

"You mean... we'll take a passenger boat?"

I can hear excitement in his voice.

"Yep! A proper passenger boat. There's a festival there too so lots of vendors are selling things. We can buy clothes and other supplies." I say happily.

"Yeah sure, I'll eat a lot then."

I nod and go back to eating. My heart beats faster and harder as I think about what's coming later.

A date... Angelo and I are going on a date. And this will be my very first date ever!

"SASHA?! WHAT'S TAKING YOU SO LONG?"

I step out of the house with a scowl on my face. I'm wearing a simple dress Lola left me—it's red, sleeveless and fits close to my body. I paired it with old flat sandals—but they still look good.

"What is it? You keep shouting!" I say irritably before locking the door behind me.

Andeng just raises an eyebrow at me. "What's wrong? Why so grumpy? Your face is all scrunched up—you look even uglier!"

I bite my lip to keep from snapping back. Damn it!

I give Angelo a pleading look. He's standing next to Junior and both men are ready to go. Angelo has his hands in his pockets and is smiling at me.

Oh Angelo! Can't you tell what I'm thinking?!

I almost pout and drop to my knees in front of him but he just doesn't get the hint.

Because you see! I was so excited thinking we'd be alone together—but look at this!

My face is still twisted with annoyance when I find out these two planned to come along too. They're joining us on our trip.

"Let's go, the boat might leave without us." Angelo says then comes to take my hand.

I'm still scowling but I calm down a little when he touches me.

But I'm still upset! Hmmph! Why did he agree to us all going together? I wanted him all to myself.

I'm in a foul mood but I can honestly say I enjoyed my first date because I was with Angelo.

But who would have thought... that our first date—would also be our last.
