Jay woke to the sound of water shutting off.
Not the usual drip from the kitchen faucet. This was the shower full stop, followed by the soft clink of the glass door opening, then the rustle of a towel being pulled from the rack.
He didn't move at first. Just lay there on his stomach, face half-buried in the pillow, sheets tangled around his legs. The bedroom smelled faintly of Roman's shampoo now something clean and expensive, citrus and wood that had no business lingering in Jay's apartment.
The door to the en-suite opened.
Roman stepped out.
Hair damp, dark strands falling across his forehead. Towel knotted low around his hips, water still beading on his collarbone, trailing slow paths down the center of his chest. He was smiling small, easy, the kind of smile that said he'd slept better than he had in days.
Jay watched him from the bed. Didn't smile back.
Roman's expression softened when he noticed.
