The restroom filled quickly with movement and noise, voices overlapping as people tried to make sense of what they had rushed into. Ben stepped forward first, his eyes scanning the space, checking the sinks, the mirrors, the floor, expecting something that was not there. Nina followed behind him, slower, more observant, her gaze moving with intention rather than panic.
"There's no one here," Ben said, confusion already replacing urgency in his voice.
Asher stayed by the sink, water still dripping from his face, his breathing uneven but controlled enough to pass as exhaustion. He turned toward them with a strained expression, dragging a hand down his face as if trying to steady himself.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly. "I thought I saw someone collapse. It was just… the mirror."
Ben let out a breath, shaking his head slightly. "You had half the office running for nothing."
"I know," Asher replied, lowering his gaze. "I didn't mean to. I haven't been sleeping well."
