Daniel didn't drive toward the hospital.
Roman noticed after the second turn.
"This isn't the way," he said.
"I know," Daniel replied.
Roman looked at him. "Daniel."
"We're making a stop."
"We're not making a stop." Roman's voice was flat. "Turn around."
"No."
The word came out easy. Unbothered. The way Daniel said things when he had already decided and was simply waiting for Roman to catch up.
Roman stared at him.
"Jay is in that hospital—"
"And he will still be there in two hours," Daniel said, his eyes staying on the road. "The staff have him. The blood transfusion is done. There is nothing you can physically do for him in the next two hours that you cannot do after you've showered and eaten something that isn't hospital air."
"I don't need—"
