The following week the university had no scheduled seminars.
Michael called on a Tuesday evening.
"I want to go and see him," he said. No preamble. That was Michael — he said what he meant and stopped.
"Marcus too?"
"Marcus too."
Roman leaned back in his chair. "There's a window this week. The center allows visitors Thursday through Sunday. No conflicts with his therapy schedule."
"Then Thursday," Michael said.
"I'll arrange the flights and the hotel."
"Roman, you don't have to—"
"It's arranged," Roman said. "I'll send you the details tonight."
A pause.
"Thank you," Michael said.
"Go and see him," Roman said. "That's all he needs right now."
They flew out Thursday morning.
Roman did not go with them. He had a company to run and accounts waiting for sign-off and two client calls that could not be moved. He sent them with a car from the airport and the name of the nurse on Jay's floor and everything else they would need.
At six o'clock he called Jay the same as always.
