Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 – Outside the Gates

Ethan Cole, seventeen, stood at the edge of the private security perimeter. Behind him, the world seemed deceptively calm: the city stretched in glittering grids of light, while the underground bunker he had once tried to access — the one where "officials" had refused him entry during his early survival simulations — loomed as a shadowed reminder of limitations.

"You were denied access before," Marcus said from behind, voice tinged with both amusement and caution. "Do you really think tonight will be different?"

Ethan's eyes flicked to the complex's reinforced gates. "Denial is temporary," he said softly. "Opportunity is permanent."

Cara appeared beside him, her heels clicking against the polished stone. "You think they'll let a seventeen-year-old in now?" she asked, a smile teasing at the corner of her lips.

"I've expanded the game," Ethan said, voice calm but deadly precise. "Variables have shifted. My AI shows a 93% chance that the directors will overlook my age… if I present the right leverage."

Aria Vale lingered nearby, notebook in hand. Her gaze was steady. "And if they don't?"

Ethan smiled faintly, almost imperceptibly. "Then we adapt… as always."

They moved through the shadowed streets toward a private entrance, using forged clearance codes Ethan had prepared months in advance. Each step was calculated, every interaction pre-scanned for potential resistance. But nothing prepared him for the moment the security manager — the same one who had blocked him last year — walked out.

"Cole," he said, eyebrows raised. "You're… younger than I expected."

Ethan inclined his head politely. "Age is irrelevant when the outcome is inevitable."

The manager hesitated, then waved them through. Ethan allowed himself a quiet smile. Outside, Cara grinned, lightly tapping his arm. "I like this… unstoppable you."

Aria's gaze was unyielding. "Don't let charm distract you. There are more eyes than you can calculate."
