Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: A Message in Blood

The Imperial Envoy, a man who once stood above thousands, lay amidst the rubble of the banquet hall. His golden robes were now rags, and his Peak-Foundation cultivation felt like a leaking bucket. Every time he tried to circulate his Qi, a sharp, cold pain—the Void Ice—stabbed at his soul.

"You... you are a monster..." the Envoy wheezed, looking up as Shen Yuan's shadow loomed over him.

"Monster?" Shen Yuan tilted his head, his black eyes reflecting the burning lanterns. "I have been called many things. A God. A Tyrant. A Sovereign. 'Monster' is such a... small word."

Shen Yuan reached down and grabbed the Envoy's arm. He didn't break it. Instead, his fingers began to glow with a sickly purple light.

"[Forbidden Art: Soul-Script Carving]"

The Envoy screamed. This wasn't physical pain; it was the agony of his very memories being unraveled and re-stitched. Ye Fan and Ye Lin watched from the side, their faces pale. They had seen their Master kill, but this was something else. This was erasure.

Shen Yuan was carving a message directly into the Envoy's meridians.

"I am leaving a seed inside you," Shen Yuan whispered into the man's ear. "It will keep you alive long enough to reach the Capital. It will sustain you as you walk through the palace gates. But the moment you stand before Ling Xian... the moment she looks into your eyes..."

Shen Yuan smiled, and even the shadows seemed to recoil.

"...the seed will bloom. And she will see exactly what I have prepared for her."

He tossed the Envoy aside like a piece of trash. "Go. Run to your Empress. Tell her the Master of the Eternal Void has reclaimed his first city."

The Envoy, driven by a primal, magical urge he couldn't control, scrambled to his feet and vanished into the night, running with a speed that shouldn't be possible for a dying man.

The Imperial Capital – The Jade Palace

In a chamber draped in celestial silk and scented with soul-soothing incense, a woman sat in deep meditation. Her beauty was ethereal, as if she were carved from the purest starlight. This was Ling Xian, the Empress of the Sun-Glow Empire.

Suddenly, her eyes snapped open.

A cold shiver, a sensation she hadn't felt in a thousand years, raced down her spine. The air in her private chamber froze, a thin layer of black frost creeping across the jade floor.

"No..." she breathed, her voice a mix of disbelief and sudden, sharp terror. "It's impossible. I felt his soul shatter. I burned his scriptures myself."

She stood up, her golden Qi flaring to push back the encroaching cold. But the frost didn't vanish. It formed a shape on the floor—a single, ancient character: [VOID].

A servant rushed in, trembling. "Your Majesty! The Envoy from the Southern Province... he has returned. But... something is wrong. He refuses to speak to anyone but you. He is... changing."

Ling Xian's face turned into a mask of cold fury. "Bring him to the Hall of Supreme Harmony. And call the Three Great Generals. If he has returned... I will bury him again, even if I have to turn this entire Empire into a graveyard."

Back at Heaven's Reach City

Shen Yuan stood on the balcony of the Lin Family's highest tower, overlooking the city. Below, the fires were being extinguished, and the common people were peering out of their windows in fear.

"Master," Ye Lin stepped forward, her blue eyes reflecting the moonlight. "The city is ours. The Lin and Zhou remnants are being hunted down. What is our next command?"

Shen Yuan looked at the horizon. He could feel the distant pulse of his old enemies waking up.

"Tonight, we don't just take a city," Shen Yuan declared. "We announce the birth of a new power. Ye Fan, go to the city square. Hang the banners of the Eternal Void. Any rogue cultivator, any 'trash' discarded by the great sects, any soul seeking vengeance—tell them the gates are open."

He clenched his fist, and the Star-Iron shard in his pocket hummed in response.

"The hunt has officially begun. And I am no longer the prey."
