Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: The Requiem of the Third General

The white fire of the [Requiem of the Betrayed] didn't just burn Shen Yuan's flesh; it bypassed his Aegis and began to boil the very memories stored within his soul. The black chains holding the two Heavens together vibrated with a dissonant, high-pitched scream.

"Zither-Soul," Shen Yuan gritted out, his violet eyes narrowing as he held the straining chains. "You always did prefer a tragic ending. But your music has grown... shrill."

The Third General, known as Zither-Soul despite his bone flute, didn't stop playing. His eyes were closed, his fingers moving with a grace that defied the chaos of the collapsing worlds around them.

"Master," Zither-Soul spoke through the melody, his voice a haunting harmony. "The Sun-Emperor thinks I am his shield. Luo Feng thinks I am your executioner. But they forget... you taught us that the Void is the only truth. And the truth requires a clean slate."

Suddenly, the white fire changed. It didn't extinguish; it inverted. The flames turned a deep, bruised indigo, and instead of eating Shen Yuan's soul, they began to devour the Heavenly Tracking Seals that Luo Feng had surreptitiously placed on the Sovereign's core during the battle in the Valley.

"He's... he's purging the Master?" Frost-Weaver gasped, her crystalline bow lowered.

"Or he's setting a different trap," Iron-Eye growled, his hand tightening on his axe. "I don't trust a man who fights with a whistle."

The Collision Zone

The golden barrier of the Second Heaven finally snapped.

BOOM.

The two realms didn't just meet; they collided like two massive tectonic plates. Mountains from the First Heaven were thrust into the golden oceans of the Second. The sky became a kaleidoscope of shattering gold and swirling purple nebulae.

In that moment of absolute instability, Zither-Soul stopped playing. He vanished and reappeared on the deck of Shen Yuan's ship, kneeling before the Sovereign.

"The tracking seals are gone, Master," Zither-Soul whispered, bowing his head. "Luo Feng can no longer see through your eyes. But the Sun-Emperor has already activated the [God-Slaying Array]. Within ten breaths, the spot we stand on will be erased from the maps of the universe."

Shen Yuan let go of the chains. Without his pull, the two worlds began to rebound, but the damage was done—the "Star-Gate" was now a gaping hole in reality.

"You played your part well, Zither-Soul," Shen Yuan said, his voice cold as he looked at the horizon.

A massive, golden ring had appeared in the sky of the Second Heaven. It was glowing with a heat that made the atmosphere begin to evaporate.

"Master! The Array is firing!" Hecate screamed, her shadows shrinking in the intense light.

"Let it fire," Shen Yuan said. He grabbed Zither-Soul by the shoulder and looked at his three Generals. "We are not staying for the explosion."

"[Tenth Gate: The Gate of the Void-Fold]"

Shen Yuan didn't use a portal. He reached out and literally folded the deck of the ship into a pocket dimension.

FLASH.

The God-Slaying Array fired a beam of pure solar destruction. It hit the empty space where the ship had been a micro-second before, the energy passing through and incinerating an entire province of the First Heaven below.

The Inner Sanctum – The Obsidian Palace (Relocated)

The ship reappeared inside the courtyard of the Obsidian Palace, which was now hovering in the chaotic "No-Man's-Land" between the two merged Heavens.

Shen Yuan stepped off the ship, his armor smoking, his hair white with the frost of the void. He turned to Zither-Soul.

"You stayed in the Second Heaven for ten thousand years," Shen Yuan said. "Tell me... where is the [Heart of the Sun]? The source of the Emperor's immortality."

Zither-Soul looked up, a dark smile playing on his lips. "It is hidden within the Clockwork Labyrinth of the Third Heaven, Master. But to reach it, you will need more than just your Generals."

"Explain," Shen Yuan commanded.

"The Sun-Emperor has made a pact with the Outer Gods," Zither-Soul revealed. "He is no longer just a cultivator. He is a vessel. If you kill him now, you release a horror that will eat the Nine Heavens before you can even claim your throne."

Shen Yuan looked at his hands. The Star-Forged Flesh was pulsating, the dragon-marrow and the divine essence he had absorbed earlier finally settling into his DNA.

"Then I won't just kill him," Shen Yuan said. "I will replace him. Hecate, Iron-Eye, Weaver... prepare the Sect. We are going to the Third Heaven. We aren't just here for revenge anymore."

"We are here for the Total Eclipse."
