Chapter 18 - The Wait in the Rain

Ethan was extremely excited.

For the first time, he was going out with Katrina.

He stood in front of the mirror, fixing his hair again and again, unable to hide his nervous smile.

Just then, his phone rang.

He quickly picked it up.

At the Park

Katrina had already reached the park.

She was beautifully dressed, her hair gently moving with the evening breeze.

The sky was slowly turning darker, painted in soft shades of orange and purple.

She took out her phone and called Ethan.

"Hi, Ethan… I'm at the park. Where are you?" she asked softly.

"I'm on my way. I'll be there soon," Ethan replied.

Katrina smiled.

"Okay."

She ended the call and looked around.

The park felt peaceful.

Children were playing, couples were walking, and the cool breeze made everything feel calm.

After a few minutes, Katrina checked her phone again.

No message.

No call.

She waited.

Ten minutes passed.

Then fifteen.

Then twenty.

Katrina sighed softly.

"I think he might take some more time… maybe I should walk a little," she murmured to herself.

She slowly started walking along the pathway.

But even after walking for a while, Ethan still hadn't arrived.

Her smile slowly faded.

Finally, she sat down on a bench.

She called him again.

But this time…

he didn't pick up.

Katrina's expression changed.

A strange feeling settled in her heart.

"I think… he's not coming," she whispered.

She looked down at her hands.

"That was so foolish of me… trusting someone I barely know."

Her voice was quiet, almost hurt.

"It would have been better if I had gone with Arice and Ella… they even said he's rude…"

After a moment, she stood up.

"I should just go home."

The Rain

As Katrina started walking toward her house, she suddenly felt tiny drops on her skin.

She looked up.

"Oh no…"

It started to rain.

Within seconds, the rain grew heavier.

Katrina quickly ran and took shelter at a nearby bus stop.

She hugged herself slightly, trying to stay warm.

"This day just keeps getting worse… and I don't even have an umbrella," she said softly.

The rain poured harder.

The streets began to blur under the falling water.

Katrina took out her phone from her small handbag.

"I should call Mr. Harry to pick me up…"

But just as she was about to dial—

she noticed a familiar figure in the distance.

Someone was running toward her… completely drenched in the rain.

Katrina's eyes widened.

"It… can't be…"

As the figure came closer—

it was Ethan.

Ethan Arrives

Ethan ran under the shelter, breathing heavily.

He bent slightly, his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath.

His clothes were completely soaked, and water dripped from his hair.

"I… I'm so sorry… for coming late… and making you wait," he said between breaths.

Katrina stood there, stunned and speechless.

"Ethan…?"

She looked at him, worried.

"You're completely wet! Are you okay?"

Ethan straightened up, still catching his breath.

"I… had some urgent work. Someone was sick, so I had to go to the hospital," he explained quickly.

"I'm really sorry… my phone battery died, so I couldn't even call you."

Katrina's expression softened immediately.

"Oh… I didn't know that."

She looked at him with concern.

"Is that person okay now?"

Ethan nodded.

"Yes… he's better now."

Katrina felt a little guilty.

"I'm sorry… you came all the way here for me, and you're completely soaked."

Ethan smiled faintly, though there was a hint of disappointment in his eyes.

"It's okay… but I guess we can't go for coffee today."

For a moment, there was silence.

Then Katrina smiled gently.

"It's okay. We can go tomorrow."

Ethan looked up, surprised.

"Really?"

Katrina nodded.

"Yes."

A soft smile appeared on Ethan's face.

Walking Back Together

After a while, the rain slowly began to stop.

The sky cleared slightly, and the cool air felt refreshing.

Ethan and Katrina started walking home together.

This time, the silence between them felt different.

Not awkward…

but calm and comforting.

In Front of Their Houses

They finally reached their homes.

Katrina turned toward Ethan.

"Bye… and go change your clothes quickly, or you'll catch a cold."

Ethan nodded shyly.

"Yeah… and I'm really sorry again."

Katrina shook her head with a small smile.

"Please don't say that."

She waved lightly and went inside her house.

Ethan stood there for a moment, quietly watching her leave.

A Silent Observer

From the window of Ethan's house…

his mother had seen everything.
