Synopsis
Amara Collins loses everything in one day, her job, her reputation, and her financial security, after being framed for a corporate data breach at Blackwood Holdings. Desperate to support her ailing mother, she never expects the same man who signed her termination letter to offer her a lifeline. Ethan Blackwood, powerful CEO and heir to a corporate empire, is under pressure from his board and investors to stabilize his public image through marriage. His solution is unconventional: a one year contractual marriage with strict rules, no romance, and complete discretion. Amara agrees, on one condition: Ethan must clear her name. What begins as a calculated business arrangement quickly spirals when anonymous threats surface, exposing secrets tied to a classified corporate project known as Project Helix. As hidden enemies move in the shadows, Amara realizes she may have been framed for reasons far bigger than office politics. The more she uncovers, the more dangerous the arrangement becomes. And the line between fake marriage and real feelings starts to blur. In a world built on power, reputation, and control, the greatest risk may not be betrayal, but falling in love with the man who was never meant to be hers.

Chapter 1 - Chapter One: The Accusation

The email that destroyed Amara Collins' life arrived at exactly 9:17a.m.

At first, she thought it was a mistake.

She stared to the subject line on her screen, reading it over and over again.

URGENT: Security Breach Investigation.

Her stomach tightened.

That didn't make sense.

She hadn't accessed any restricted file that morning.

The office around her buzzed with the usual sounds of keyboards and quiet conversations, but something felt wrong. A few of her coworkers were glancing in her direction, whispering to each other.

Amara frowned slightly and opened the message.

Her heart stopped.

You are required to report to Conference Room B immediately regarding an investigation into the unauthorized leak of confidential company data.

For a moment, she just sat there.

The words didn't make sense.

Unauthorized leak?

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard.

She had worked at Blackwood Holdings for four years. In that time, she had built a reputation as one of the most reliable analysts in the department.

She was careful.

Meticulous.

She never broke protocol.

So how could she possibly be involved in something like this?

"Amara."

She looked up.

Two members of corporate security were standing beside her desk.

Every conversation in the office had suddenly stopped.

"Please come with us," one of them said.

A cold wave of unease spread through her chest.

"What's going on?" She asked.

"You'll receive the details in the meeting."

The walk to the conference room felt longer than usual.

Everyone was watching.

Whispers followed her down the hallway.

When the door opened, Amara immediately saw who was waiting inside.

Her breath caught.

At the far end of the table stood Ethan Blackwood.

CEO Blackwood Holdings.

The most powerful man in the building.

Tall. Composed. Impossibly calm.

He didn't look surprised to see her.

If anything, his expression was unreadable.

The moment she stepped inside, the door closed behind her.

Three executives sat along the table, their faces serious.

And on the large screen behind them…

Her employee file was displayed.

Amara felt her pulse quicken.

"Mr. Blackwood," one of the executives said, "Miss Collins has arrived."

Ethan's dark eyes shifted to her.

For a second, the room felt unbearably silent.

Then he spoke.

"Amara Collins," he said calmly. "You've been accused of leaking confidential data."

Her heart slammed against her ribs.

"That's impossible," she said immediately.

A file appeared on the screen.

Security logs.

Access timestamps.

Her name.

"Your credentials were used to access restricted files last night," the executive continued.

Amara shook her head.

"No, that can't be right."

She turned to Ethan.

"You know I wouldn't do that."

His gaze remained steady.

Cold.

Professional.

"This investigation isn't personal," he said.

The words hit harder than she expected.

"But I didn't do it."

Silence filled the room.

"Due to a breach of company policy," the executive said, "your employment with Blackwood Holdings is terminated effective immediately."

For a moment, the room blurred.

Terminated.

"I didn't do this," Amara said quietly. "You know that."

The executive glanced toward Ethan again.

He finally moved.

Ethan picked up a pen, flipped to the last page of the document, and signed his name in one smooth motion.

The sound of the pen against paper echoed in the silence.

Final.

Amara felt something inside her break, not loudly, not dramatically, but in a way that felt permanent.

"Security will escort you to clear your desk," the executive added.

Amara stood before anyone could say anything else. She refused to let them see her fall apart.

She walked out of the room with her head held high, though her legs felt unsteady beneath her.

Her desk had never looked so small.

A security officer stood nearby as she packed her belongings into a cardboard box. A framed photo of her and her mother. A mug she'd been given on her third work anniversary. A notebook filled with ideas she'd never get to pitch now.

Coworkers avoided her eyes.

Some looked guilty. Others were relieved.

Ten minutes later, she was standing in the elevator, box in her arms, staring at her reflection in the mirrored wall.

She looked…hollow.

When the doors opened to the lobby, Amara stepped out and handed her badge to the security desk without being asked. She walked through the revolving doors and into the bright morning sunlight.

The city didn't pause for her heartbreak.

Cars rushed by. People hurried along the sidewalk, absorbed in their own lives.

Her phone buzzed.

A notification from her bank.

Low balance alert.

The another.

A message from her landlord.

Rent overdue. Please contact management.

Amara's throat tightened.

She stood there on the sidewalk, clutching the box, the weight of everything pressing down on her at once. Her job. Her income. Her mother's medical bills. The fragile sense of stability she'd walked so hard to build.

Gone.

She took a shaky breath and started walking.

High above the street, Ethan Blackwood stood by the floor to ceiling windows of his office.

He watched as Amara Collins stepped out of the building.

He told himself it was another termination. Necessary. Clean.

The company couldn't afford leaks. Intentional or not.

Still, his gaze lingered longer than he intended.

She didn't cry. She didn't shout . She didn't beg.

She simply walked away.

Something about that unsettled him.

Ethan turned back to his desk, pushing the feeling aside. There were meetings to attend. Deals to close. Responsibilities that didn't allow room for doubt.

Whatever happened to Amara Collins was no longer his concern.

Or so he told himself.

Amara reached the bus stop and finally set the box down beside her. Her hands trembled as she pulled out her phone, scrolling through job listings she'd already saved, already applied to.

Rejections. Silence. More silence.

She pressed her lips together, refusing to cry in public.

She would figure it out.

She always did.

What she didn't know, what neither of them knew, was that the signature that ended her career that morning would be the same one tied to a contract that would change her life forever.

And that the man who fired her would soon need her far more than he realized.
