Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: What I Saw and Heard

"Beep beep beep, beep beep beep."

The familiar alarm clock rang. Bai Mo, eyes half-closed, quickly climbed out of bed. In a half-asleep, half-awake state, he switched off the alarm, then continued to sleep. The whole process was as smooth as flowing clouds and running water, executed with practiced ease.

...

"What time is it?!" After sleeping for who knows how long again, he suddenly woke up once more.

"I'm going to be late for class!" In his subconscious, Bai Mo still thought of himself as a student who had class today. His first thought upon waking was still about class.

"No, wait, I don't have to go to class anymore..." A wave of relief instantly washed over him.

"Wait, have I really woken up?" This was the first thought that occurred to him after he truly opened his eyes.

In Bai Mo's eyes, the world gained many previously unseen lights.

"My body is covered in unknown light, and even the sunlight is mixed with strange lights. The whole world is different now." All sorts of strange lights appeared in Bai Mo's spiritual sense perception, and the world instantly became bizarre and fantastical.

Unsure of what was happening, he used his spiritual sense to scan himself, attempting to find the reason for the change.

"My spiritual sense organ has silently merged into my Life Field. This must be the consequence of using my spiritual sense with excessive intensity yesterday. It might be an enhanced ability after merging with the Life Field."

"The ability seems to have significantly expanded the visible spectrum. The light I see on my body should be the infrared radiation emitted by the body, and the 'impurities' in the sunlight should be ultraviolet light."

Bai Mo quickly calmed down and began using his memories to resolve his questions.

It wasn't just his vision that had changed; his hearing was also greatly enhanced.

He had an illusion that his vision and hearing had been infinitely extended, allowing him to disregard obstacles, see the movements of every person around him, and hear the voice of every person around him.

But he couldn't interfere, nor could he communicate with them. He could only watch, only listen.

Almost immediately, this immense impact on his vision and hearing washed over Bai Mo's consciousness, making him, who had just woken up, feel drowsy and extremely uncomfortable.

If it had been an inexperienced person encountering this situation, they would likely be driven to question their sanity by the bizarre spectacle around them and the endless whispers of countless people. But Bai Mo had prior experience using his spiritual sense ability, so he persevered.

"Pork prices went up today."

"My son also became an Ability User!"

"Congratulations, congratulations."

"Old Wang, what are you so happy about?"

"You damn ghost, why are you only coming back now!"

"Don't mock a young man in poverty! I won't give up!"

...

Within a radius of several hundred meters, all sorts of sounds appeared in Bai Mo's perception. Wherever his spiritual sense reached, he could hear many voices. Not only that, there was also the music from TV commercials, the honking of cars on the street, and even the sound of the wind blowing past.

It was as if he had returned to the first time he acquired his spiritual sense—that feeling of having everything around him within his sight, standing at an infinitely high vantage point, looking down upon everything in the world.

He separated each sound from the jumbled audio, bringing order back to the chaotic world in his eyes.

...

"Could this also be a new ability after my spirit-energized eyes merged with my Life Field? Eyes receive light waves, ears receive sound waves. After the spiritual sense organ merged into the Life Field, it uses the Life Field as an amplifier, greatly enhancing its ability to receive sound waves and light waves.

Whether it's vision or hearing, what I truly rely on now has actually become the spiritual sense organ merged into the Life Field—an organ that can simultaneously perceive sound waves and light waves—rather than the eyes and ears themselves."

Lying on the bed, Bai Mo began to examine the results of his previous experiment.

It seemed that the pressure wasn't sufficient; his body hadn't been in an absolute disadvantageous position in its battle with the mutated lysing bacteria. It hadn't even managed to make him lose consciousness.

As he hadn't managed to squeeze out his body's potential, forcing it to evolve phagocytes with rapid recovery capabilities like those of the white mouse, thereby acquiring super-regeneration ability, nor had he fortunately gained the lysing bacteria's super-decomposition ability as he had theorized.

"The life-gambling didn't succeed, and there was no thrill. It was just like watching a twenty-hour live broadcast of StarCraft."

However, what was lost in the east was gained in the west. Continuously watching this high-intensity, cellular-level battle live broadcast caused Bai Mo's spiritual sense organ to merge into his Life Field, and he gained another interesting ability.

The more important gain was that the spirit-energization of his brain, which had been stagnant, had progressed by another fifth. Adding to some scattered progress from before, approximately one-third of his entire brain was now spirit-energized.

Moreover, it allowed him to find a path to accelerate the spirit-energization of his brain—by training his body's subconscious!

"I'll further research the remaining lysing bacteria samples when I get back. It's time to head out for the gathering."

Sitting on the first floor of the Dao Academy building, Bai Mo found that he could perceive what everyone was doing and saying. The deepening spirit-energization of his brain allowed him to process more information simultaneously.

Originally, he could only see every place, but due to his brain's self-protection, he couldn't pay attention to every place simultaneously. But now, he could direct his attention to many places at once.

Of course, this was also because people hadn't yet developed the habit of guarding against Ability Users eavesdropping from hundreds of meters away. After all, Ability Users had only appeared a few months ago; most people's minds were still stuck in the era of guarding against electronic eavesdropping. This was why he could perceive everything outside of Life Fields without any obstruction.

Once precautions were taken in the future, things wouldn't be so easy, with all sorts of interference devices emerging endlessly.

"As expected of the ten elites chosen from a hundred thousand Ability Users in the military; eight of them are actually masters with Life Fields."

Bai Mo looked at the fifth floor of the building. The person in charge there was currently receiving the ten individuals sent by the military to converge and attend the conference.

"Captain of the Fifth Squad, do you feel like you're being watched?" A thin young man in military uniform quietly asked the person next to him.

"There's a vague intuition, yes," the man, referred to as the Captain of the Fifth Squad, replied. "But I've paid attention for a long time, and there's nothing around. I couldn't even detect where the gaze was coming from. I've always thought it was an illusion."

After Bai Mo heard their conversation, he felt things had become even more interesting.

"Let's tell Chen Bo. After all, he's the strongest one here."

"Okay."

"Captain Chen, do you feel anything strange?" The two asked the Captain of the military's First Squad, who was seated at the far left.

"It seems like someone is peeking at us, but I didn't pay it any mind. It's probably just someone from the Dao Academy watching the show."

"Alright, if even Captain Chen says so."

Bai Mo continued to pay attention to their conversation. Unfortunately, there weren't many insightful topics. Clearly, this group of soldiers was very good at maintaining confidentiality.

"My ability is top-notch for intelligence gathering. Too bad I can't expose it. Otherwise, given the nature of this ability, it would be almost impossible for me to gain trust again. This ability is too taboo. No one wants someone by their side who can monitor their every move."

"Captain Bai, you're here so early?"

"Yes, Captain Chen, you're also early."

Chen Sen walked into the Dao Academy building. Seeing Bai Mo spaced out on the sofa, he casually greeted him, then sat down nearby and started a desultory conversation with Bai Mo.

It was a pity that neither of them was particularly articulate, and they soon fell into silence once more.
