Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The boss

The Fall of the Sovereign

For days, the battlefield becomes a war of precision.

Not brute force.

Not spectacle.

Calculation.

James hovers midair within his spatial distortion field.

He does not rush the center mass.

Instead

He analyzes.

His 59,050 Intelligence tracks internal mana circulation.

The Sovereign's regeneration is not uniform.

The tentacles act as:

Mana distributors

Damage diffusers

Sensory extensions

They must go first.

He forms dense, needle-thin spatial constructs.

Not beams.

Not explosions.

Compressed dimensional spears.

He fires.

Each Rift Lancer punches clean through tentacles.

Where it pierces

Regeneration slows dramatically.

The Sovereign adapts instinctively.

It unleashes counterattacks.

Acidic necrotic breath floods entire sections of terrain.

Bone-spike sludge bombs launch in ballistic arcs.

Shockwaves flatten kilometers.

James moves constantly.

Supersonic bursts.

Vector displacement.

Instant air-step adjustments.

He dodges and fires.

Dodges and fires.

Days pass.

Tentacle count drops steadily.

1,000

600

200

50

10.

Finally

Nothing shields the central core mass.

The Sovereign roars.

Mana spikes violently.

James inhales slowly.

He channels 90% of his mana pool.

Spatial distortion spreads across kilometers.

The air folds inward.

He activates:

Domain Collapse + Absolute Vector Control

The entire 5km basin warps.

Gravitational vectors reverse.

The Sovereign's mass compresses inward violently.

Its regeneration stalls.

Its body collapses into itself.

A shriek echoes across the dungeon.

Then

Detonation.

A catastrophic implosion-explosion hybrid tears across the battlefield.

James is caught in the outer shockwave.

He's hurled backward

6 kilometers.

Mountains shatter behind him.

He stabilizes mid-flight

Manipulating space around his body.

Temporary vector levitation.

He hovers.

Breathing hard.

Below him

The basin is gone.

A massive crater remains.

No Sovereign.

Only residual mana storms as blue lightning appears from time to time...

POV — James

(1 YEAR LATER IN DUNGEON )

One year inside Floor 2.

Constant exploration.

He still hasn't reached the final chamber.

The map stretches endlessly through necrotic wastelands.

He increases speed to maximum sustainable output.

Mach-level traversal sustained for hours.

He follows the glowing path.

100 Kilometers Ahead

Perception spikes.

A massive silhouette moves in the distance.

Wings.

Colossal wings.

James slows.

Squints.

"…Is that a fucking dragon?"

Final Boss Revealed

Level 100

A massive necromancer dragon stands atop a black spire.

It reviews the memories of every undead James has killed.

Learning.

Adapting.

It smirks.

Then launches into the sky.

Flying toward him.

DRAKVERKUS — DRAGON OF DEATH

The system chimes:

Final Boss Approaches

Name: Drakverkus

Level: 100

James opens his stat interface.

He makes a decisive choice.

Half of remaining stored points into Strength.

730,000 ÷ 2 = 365,000

He dumps it all.

Special Trait:

Death Magic

(currently sealed not using yet)

Regenerative Necrotic Core

Aerial Supremacy

The dragon closes distance rapidly.

Each wingbeat displaces clouds.

Necrotic aura darkens the sky.

James cracks his neck slowly.

Spatial distortion flickers around him.

The system echoes one final time:

The Dragon of Death... DRAKVERKUS Approaches.

The sky splits under pressure.

James doesn't wait.

He doesn't calculate.

He doesn't observe.

For the first time in a long time

He acts on instinct.

Arrogance.

He leans forward

And launches.

The air detonates behind him as he accelerates.

Shock cones spiral outward.

Ground below fractures from the sonic pressure.

In seconds

He crosses kilometers.

Drakverkus sees him coming.

The dragon's pupils narrow.

Its massive skull tilts slightly.

And then

It reinforces.

Mana floods through layered necrotic scales.

Each plate glowing faintly black-purple.

Density multiplies.

James appears directly in front of its face.

No hesitation.

He drives a 424,420 Strength punch straight into its jaw.

The collision explodes outward like a contained nuclear detonation.

Clouds vaporize instantly.

A hemispherical shockwave expands across the sky.

But

The dragon's head only shifts…

A few inches.

Just inches.

The scales don't crack.

They glow brighter.

Drakverkus' eye slowly rotates toward James.

Unimpressed.

James let's out self depreciating laugh..

"OK.. That was a bust"

The dragon made its move immediately...

Its chest expands.

James' perception spikes.

Too late.

The dragon exhales.

Black annihilating fire.

Condensed death energy mixed with mana combustion.

At point-blank range.

James throws up a Spatial Barrier instantly.

The black fire slams into it.

The barrier screams.

Cracks spiderweb across warped space.

His mana drains violently.

The heat isn't thermal

It's existential decay.

The barrier fractures

Shatters.

The blast consumes him.

James is launched violently downward like a meteor.

He hits the ground with apocalyptic force.

The terrain caves inward.

He carves a trench for over a kilometer

Rock liquefying beneath him.

The ground splits open in his wake.

He finally stops at the end of the trench

Buried halfway in molten rubble.

Smoke rises from his body.

His rags are gone.

Skin burned.

HP plummeted.

Mana reserves slashed heavily from barrier defense.

Above

Drakverkus hovers calmly.

Wings spreading over a hundred meters wide.

Black fire still curling from its mouth.

It speaks.

Its voice vibrates through the sky itself.

> "You strike like a child swinging a mountain."

"But you lack it's weight."

The dragon's mana output dwarfs James'.

500,000 Mana.

It wasn't even straining.

In the Crater

James coughs.

Blood spills from his mouth.

But his eyes are still sharp.

He rises slowly from the trench.

The earth around him trembles from residual strength alone.

He finally understands.

This is not the Sovereign.

This is not a mindless catastrophe.

This is an apex predator.

Level 100.

And it hasn't used death magic yet.

James exhales slowly.

Spatial distortion flickers weakly around him.

He looks up at the dragon hovering in the sky.

"…Okay."

The arrogance fades.

The real fight begins now.
