Chapter 29 - Before You Knew Me

When Alex walked in, the room smelled faintly like makeup remover and hotel soap.

He closed the door behind him, feeling the ache deep in his shoulders today's shoot had taken everything out of him.

He barely glanced at his script as he dropped it on the table and went straight to the balcony.

Sliding open the glass door, he let the cool night air hit his face.

City lights blinked below, and across the street to that same quiet corner where Leo always sat but tonight Leo wasn't there.

Alex lingered, searching the street, then sighed. "Not tonight, huh," he muttered.

He wandered over to the bathroom. Running water drowned out the leftover noise swirling in his head.

When he came out, towel around his shoulders, he paused again at the balcony. Still empty.

He dressed slowly a loose tee, sweats, damp hair falling over his eyes.

Settling at the bed's edge, he went through his phone: photos from the shoot, the crew, the lights.
