Claire's POV
The name landed like a punch to my gut and judging by the look on Louis' face. She was up to no good.
Just her name, and already my stomach had tightened. I watched Louis's face carefully — the way he set his phone down with a particular kind of stillness, the way his eyes moved briefly to the horizon before coming back to me.
"What happened?" I asked.
He was quiet for a beat. Then he reached for his glass, took a slow sip, and set it down. "That was Aston."
I waited for more explanation. How did Kelsey fit into all these because I was certain she did.
"It's over," he said. "With Kelsey. All of it."
I stared at him. "Over how?"
He exhaled, and I finally saw the look of relief wash over his features. "Aston managed to get her to agree to a paternity test." He said evenly, "She didn't want to. She tried to manipulate her way out but he pushed."
That was for certain. And it was also suspicious.
"Okay." I kept my voice steady. "And?"
