WORLD LORE

The Great War

Long before the current era, the world was ruled by civilizations built upon magic. Powerful kingdoms, mage towers, and ancient races flourished across the continent.

That era ended with the outbreak of The Great War.

The conflict between humanity and the Demon race lasted three hundred years. During those centuries, entire empires collapsed, cities were erased from existence, and countless bloodlines vanished from history.

In the end, humanity lost the war.

Yet the world was not completely conquered.

Two hundred years ago, the Demon High Ranks suddenly ceased their large-scale invasions. A mysterious agreement, whispered about only in fragments of forgotten history, brought the war to an abrupt end.

This agreement is now known as the Shadow Covenant.

From that moment onward, the world entered what scholars now call:

The Age of False Peace.

For the past two centuries, Demon High Ranks have avoided launching full-scale attacks on the human world.

Villages still disappear. Monsters still roam the wilderness. But the massive invasions that once devastated entire kingdoms have stopped.

Many humans believe this means the war is finally over.

Others believe the demons simply lost interest.

A darker theory suggests something else entirely:

Humanity is no longer an enemy.

They are merely pieces in a game played by beings far beyond human understanding.

The World After the War

The great kingdoms that once ruled the continent no longer exist.

Most were destroyed during the Great War, leaving behind only ruins and forgotten battlefields. As a result, the modern world lacks large centralized powers.

Instead, civilization now survives through:

• scattered towns

• isolated cities

• small frontier settlements

Trade routes are dangerous. Armies are rare. Most communities survive through caution, experience, and resilience rather than political power.

This fragmented world gives the land a strange, quiet atmosphere—vast, empty, and filled with the remnants of an age long gone.

Many travelers describe the world as feeling lonely, as if it is still recovering from a wound that never truly healed.

Magic in the Modern Age

In the distant past, magic was the foundation of civilization.

Entire nations were built upon magical knowledge, and powerful mages once shaped the balance of the world.

That age has faded.

Today, powerful magic is rarely used openly. Not because it has been forgotten—but because it is dangerous.

Many believe that strong magical activity can attract the attention of High Rank Demons, beings who may see powerful magic as either a threat… or a source of entertainment.

Because of this fear, most humans rely more on:

• combat experience

• physical training

• tactical intelligence

Rather than overwhelming magical power.

Among humans, the most respected magic users are often known as Witches/Wizards—individuals who preserve fragments of the ancient magical knowledge from the old world.

The Elves

The Elven race was once deeply connected to the flow of natural magic.

For thousands of years, they lived in isolation within their sacred forest homeland known as Elun'vahl. The forest was believed to be one of the oldest sources of natural magic in the world.

However, at some point after the Great War, a catastrophic event destroyed much of their civilization.

The details of this disaster remain unclear.

Today, the Elves are widely believed to be nearly extinct.

If any still remain, they are few—and scattered across the world.

The Demon Hierarchy

Demons exist within a strict ranking system based on power and evolution.

One of the most disturbing traits of the Demon race is that the stronger they become, the more human they appear.

Primitive demons resemble monstrous beasts, but higher-ranked demons gradually lose those monstrous traits.

At the highest levels, demons can appear completely human.

---

Lower Rank Demons

These demons resemble monstrous creatures more than intelligent beings. They are driven primarily by instinct and destruction, often appearing as wild beasts or grotesque monsters.

Mid Rank Demons serve as the primary combat forces of the Demon race.

They function as soldiers and elite units, often leading lesser demons during conflicts.

Unlike feral demons, Mid Rank Demons possess intelligence, communication skills, and the ability to plan strategies. Even a single Mid Rank Demon can wipe out an entire village if left unchecked.

For most humans, encountering one is already considered a fatal situation.

High Rank Demons — The Generals

Above them exist the High Rank Demons, often referred to as Generals.

These beings operate on a completely different level from ordinary demons.

Their magical power is described as non-human and illogical, capable of bending or breaking the natural laws of the world.

A single High Rank Demon is powerful enough to determine the outcome of an entire war.

Because of this overwhelming power, they rarely act openly.

When they do appear, history tends to change.

***

A World That Feels Empty

Despite the absence of constant war, the world remains far from safe.

Demons still appear.

Villages disappear.

Strange incidents occur in forgotten corners of the continent.

The difference is simple:

The war never truly ended.

It merely became… quiet.

And somewhere in the shadows of this fragile peace, unseen forces continue to move their pieces across the board.
