Chapter 17 - Acceleration

The market had never moved this fast.

Ethan stared at his laptop screen, sweat forming at the back of his neck. Helios Technologies was no longer a quiet underdog. It had become a wildfire, consuming every bit of attention it could find.

The numbers jumped so quickly that even seasoned traders on the forum were losing their minds.

$1.36 → $1.45 → $1.58 → $1.72

Ethan's heart hammered in his chest. His position? 60,000 shares. Each tick upwards added thousands of dollars to his account, but the wild movement made his stomach twist.

He had held this trade against every instinct, against every temptation to cash out, and now… the payoff was staggering.

"Holy… is anyone else watching this?" someone typed on a forum thread."Massive buy order detected. Insider?""This has to be illegal, right?""Who is this anonymous buyer?!"

Ethan scrolled through the posts silently, his fingers hovering above the keyboard. He didn't reply. He couldn't. He had to stay invisible.

Every post, every comment, every spike in the trading volume made him feel both exhilarated and terrified.

This is what it feels like to be in the eye of a storm, he thought.

The screen flashed a new alert: Volume Spike — 500,000 shares traded in last 5 minutes.

Ethan leaned back in his chair. His apartment had never felt smaller. Rain pelted the window outside, but he barely noticed. All he could do was watch, heart racing, as the stock soared.

He thought about the first message from the future phone: "It explodes Friday."

It wasn't Friday yet. Not even close.

And the stock wasn't waiting.

It was moving on its own, faster than he had ever imagined.

Two hours in, the price had reached $2.05.

Ethan's eyes widened. His account had crossed $120,000. More money than he had ever seen in his life. The thought made him dizzy. Three days ago, he had been surviving on instant noodles. Now… now he was riding a stock that was becoming a legend before anyone else even knew the story.

But he felt a cold edge in the back of his mind.

Future Ethan warned me: this will make enemies.

And enemies were already circling.

Victor Liang's name echoed in his head. That calm, authoritative voice over the phone. The billionaire who already knew something about him.

Then the screen flashed again. A new message.

The future phone.

Future Ethan:Good. You're accelerating faster than expected. But remember… every movement leaves a trace.

Ethan's pulse quickened.

Trace?

He clicked through his trade history. Every purchase he had made was digital gold — a trail for anyone paying attention. And someone was paying attention. He could feel it.

His laptop pinged with another alert: Suspicious Trading Activity Detected — High Frequency Orders Targeting Helios.

Ethan leaned forward. High-frequency traders. Bots. Algorithms. Machines designed to sniff out patterns, predict movements, and exploit them instantly.

They're trying to mimic me, Ethan realized. Or track me.

His fingers hovered over the mouse. Sell? Hold? Or… double down?

The phone buzzed again.

Future Ethan:Do not sell. But be cautious. Acceleration attracts attention.

Ethan swallowed hard. Acceleration. That was the word. The storm wasn't just about Helios—it was about him now. Whoever noticed his early movement was analyzing, calculating, waiting.

The forums were a frenzy of speculation.

"Penny stock gone rogue!""Helios pumping like crazy!""Insider information? This is huge!"

Ethan shook his head. They had no idea.

And suddenly, he realized something else.

This wasn't just a stock anymore. It was a signal.

A signal that someone in the shadows was tracking. Someone who wanted to know who was behind this unprecedented surge.

By mid-afternoon, Helios was trading at $2.55.

Ethan's account value? $153,000.

He exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair. The adrenaline was intoxicating. But he knew better than to get carried away.

It's not just money anymore. It's attention.

And attention, in his case, was dangerous.

The trading forum erupted with posts about "the unknown whale" buying enormous amounts without selling. Everyone was guessing.

"Short squeeze incoming!""Someone is manipulating the market!""Whoever it is… they're crazy!"

Ethan leaned back in his chair. He could almost hear the whispers of the financial elite, the hidden players, the ones who didn't tolerate anomalies like him.

And then his phone vibrated again.

Future Ethan:You are learning fast. But you need an exit strategy. Soon.

Ethan frowned. Exit strategy? He hadn't even reached the top yet.

Top of what? he wondered. The market? His life? Or the unseen war he was being dragged into?

Then he noticed it: a series of unusual trades in the opposite direction. Someone was betting against Helios. A silent, precise, aggressive shorting operation.

Ethan's pulse spiked. Whoever it was… they were experienced. Not just investors — predators.

They noticed me.

The thought made his hands shake slightly.

He minimized his browser and opened a blank document. Notes. Calculations. Patterns. Potential threats. Every scenario he could think of.

Because if the stock was accelerating… the danger was accelerating faster.

By evening, Helios had broken $3.10.

Ethan's account: $186,000. Nearly $10,000 every hour.

His laptop pinged again with the forum notifications. Traders were panicking. Bots were buying and selling. The volatility was insane.

Ethan's eyes darted back to the phone. It had been silent all day.

Then, a vibration.

A single, ominous message:

Future Ethan:Acceleration is inevitable. But remember… someone is now playing the same game as you.

Ethan felt a chill.

Someone else. Someone powerful. Someone dangerous.

He glanced at the Helios chart one last time before shutting the laptop.

The numbers were insane. $3.12… $3.15… $3.20… climbing by the second.

This is just the beginning, he thought.

Outside, the city lights flickered on as night fell. Ethan's small apartment felt like the center of a storm that no one else could see.

And somewhere, in the shadows, his first real rival had already begun calculating… waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

Ethan leaned back in his chair, eyes wide, mind racing.

Acceleration has begun. And I have no idea how fast it will go.

The game had changed. The stakes had risen. And he was no longer just a student with a lucky phone.

He was a player in something far bigger than he ever imagined.

And it was only Wednesday.
