Chapter 6 - BATTLE

The bear runs toward me with incredible speed, It jumps into the air and lands right in front of me, making the ground shake.

The bear is nearly four meters tall, Twice my height plus Its fur is completely black.

The bear raises its paw to strike me, I quickly flip backward several times to dodge the attack. With fast movements I take an arrow, set it on the bow, ignite it with fire, and release it toward the bear. But the bear seems to know my plan, It skillfully dodges every flaming arrow.

"Wait, wait. I didn't mean to interfere in your business with that centaur."

I step back and raise my hands as a sign of surrender, but the bear keeps walking toward me. Its eyes glow red and its snout is wet as it breathes heavily.

Suddenly the sound of galloping hooves approaches behind the bear, the centaur sprints forward. Then he jumps high into the air and throws his spear with full force. the spear should have pierced the bear's back, but the bear turns around in time and easily avoids it from that surprise attack.

The spear passes the side of the bear and flies toward me instead so It lands only a few centimeters from my foot.

Everything becomes silent for a few seconds. Then, I snap "Are you crazy? You almost killed me! You stupid centaur! Can't you see I'm standing here?!"I shout at him angrily.

I almost died in a ridiculous way. But wait. Why am I so angry? I came to this mountain to die. Still, it feels wrong to die right now. I should at least fight first.

The centaur stands behind the bear and laughs awkwardly. He scratches his arm and lowers his head. "Sorry. Please give me my spear back."

My jaw tightens. I yank the spear out of the ground and hurl it back toward the centaur, past the bear again. The centaur easily catches his spear easily. Once again, the bear roars loudly.

"Step back!" the centaur shouts. I quickly move back, and he does the same. "Get ready to attack, elf!"

The centaur and I stand on opposite sides, with the bear trapped between us. We take fighting stances and slowly circle around the bear while staying alert.

The bear looks confused about who to attack first. If it attacks me, the centaur will strike from behind, vice versa.

The bear looks at me, then at the centaur, again and again. Finally it turns and charges at the centaur. The centaur is ready, he steps back and throws his spear with all his strength.

The spear hits the bear's chest. It pierces the skin and flesh, but it does not reach the heart. One spear is not enough to kill a bear like that because that monster's skin and muscles are too thick.

"Burn it!" the centaur gives command to me. I understand what he means. My hand grabs four arrows at once, I set them on the bow, ignite them, and release them toward the bear's back.

A second later the four arrows hit the bear. Luckily the tips are very sharp, so they pierce deep into its flesh.

Then I create two fireballs in my hands and throw them at the bear in fast the flames grow larger and begin to cover its whole body.

It seems the bear is defeated. I am wrong.

The bear becomes even more furious. The monster chases both of us like a mad demon. Its body is still burning, and blood leaks from several wounds. Sometimes the bear even grabs stones and throws them at us.

We run in the same direction. The sound of my footsteps and the sound of horse hooves echo across the snowy ground.

"Do you have a sword, elf?" the centaur asks.

I shake my head. "No! I can't use a sword."

"Tch! Pathetic!" the centaur says mockingly, Then he continues, "The bear has gone mad! We need to knock it to the ground, then you burn it again."

My jaw tightens again and my fists clench. I do not answer immediately because I am still annoyed. But his idea is good. I nod to agree.

"Follow me!" The centaur suddenly changes direction and runs toward a pine tree about seven meters tall.

He stops and pulls the entire tree out of the ground with its roots. His arm muscles tighten, this centaur is incredibly strong, I feel a pang of envy watching his muscles tense.

He waits for the bear to get closer. When the distance is right, he throws the tree at the bear. The bear cannot avoid it. The heavy tree pin the bear to the ground.

"Burn it!" he gives me a command "Wait! Don't burn the bear. Burn the trees around it instead."

I am shocked. "You want me to burn the forest? I won't do that."

"Not the whole forest. Just the trees around the bear." He rolls his eyes

"I won't do it. The fire will spread everywhere." I frown now, he is really annoying.

"It's for our safety! The fire won't spread far. I'm sure a snowstorm will come soon and put it out. Don't worry! Do it now before the bear stands up!" He barks at me

I glance at the bear who is trying to push the tree off its body. Reluctantly I walk forward and I spread my arms, preparing to release my power again.

The air around us becomes hot. Suddenly a massive explosion erupts. The trees around the bear burst into flames, trapping the monster in a cage of fire.

Everything burns in front of me, huge flames rise up. Black smoke climbs into the sky, and the smell of burning fills the air I breathe.

The fire is so large that I can no longer see the bear.

"Isn't this too much?" I ask the centaur. He is standing behind me.

The centaur looks very calm. He looks up at the dark sky. "Relax."

"You really are an animal." I mutter under my breath then I turn around to face him.

Suddenly my breath hitches and then my whole body becomes stiff. I think I used too much of my power. My frozen body collapses onto the ground. I see the centaur walking toward me before everything turns black.
