The death of a Grand Elder was not a quiet affair. In the higher realms, within the floating jade palaces of the Heavenly Pavilion, a soul-lamp flickered and died, plunging the sect into a state of frozen panic. But in the City of Iron and Bone, the silence was different—it was the silence of a new era beginning.
Cain stood at the edge of the Obsidian Spire's balcony, his new [Primordial Harbinger] form radiating a soft, rhythmic pulse of violet light. His skin was now etched with silver Dao-runes that hummed like a swarm of angry hornets. At Level 40, he felt less like a man and more like a bridge between the mortal world and the abyss.

"The city is terrified, Cain," Elena said, stepping onto the balcony. She looked at him with a mix of awe and a new, quiet distance. Every time he leveled up, he seemed to drift further from humanity. "The merchants are fleeing, and the Bone-Guards... they look at you as if you are a god."
"Fear is a temporary foundation," Cain said, his voice echoing with a slight metallic ring. "Respect is built on what I do next. The Heavenly Pavilion sent their 'Sun' to burn me. Now, I will send the 'Night' to swallow them."
Cain raised his hand, and the violet fog surrounding the Spire began to coalesce. Two figures emerged from the mist. On his left, the former City Lord Malakor. On his right, the new addition: Feng, the Solar-Wraith.
Feng no longer looked like a proud Grand Elder. He was a towering knight of dark-gold smoke, his solar mana now inverted into "Cold Fire."
"Feng," Cain commanded. "Take five hundred Bone-Guards. March toward the southern pass. Every outpost belonging to the Heavenly Pavilion between here and their main gate is to be dismantled. Leave no witnesses, but more importantly—leave no mana behind. Consume everything."
The Solar-Wraith knelt, the stone balcony cracking beneath his spectral weight. "As you command, My Sovereign."
"Malakor," Cain turned to the other shadow. "Stay here. Fortify the city. If any other sect tries to scavenge from our territory while I am gone, show them why this place is called the City of Bone."
As his generals vanished to execute their orders, Cain looked at his own interface. He had earned 50 Stat Points from the massive EXP dump of the Grand Elder's death.

Cain felt his body grow light, almost ethereal. He felt like he could outrun the wind itself.
"Elena, you're coming with me," Cain said.
"To the Pavilion? Cain, that's their stronghold! They have thousands of disciples and a Sect Master who is rumored to be Level 75!"
"I am not going there to hide, Elena. I am going there to grow," Cain said, walking toward the center of the room where a massive obsidian chest sat—the treasures of the City Lord. He kicked it open, revealing thousands of high-grade Spirit Stones and ancient scrolls. "We take what we need. The rest, the city will use to build a monument to the new Lord."

Cain didn't waste time. He grabbed Elena's hand, and before she could even gasp, he activated [Step of the Void-Walker].
They didn't walk down the stairs. They stepped off the balcony and simply vanished into a ripple of violet space, reappearing a mile outside the city gates in a blur of speed that left the ground scorched.
The march had begun.
Across the Borderlands, the news spread like wildfire. A "Void Sovereign" had risen. A Grand Elder had fallen. And a dark star was moving toward the heart of the orthodox sects.
By the time the sun began to rise on the second day of their journey, they reached the first Pavilion Outpost: The Jade Watchtower. It was a fortress built on a cliffside, manned by fifty disciples and a Level 45 Elder.
Cain didn't stop. He didn't hide. He walked right up the main road, his aura flaring until the sky itself turned violet.
"Who goes there?!" the sentry screamed, his voice cracking.
Cain looked up at the tower. He didn't use a skill. He simply exhaled a breath of pure, concentrated void energy.
"Sovereign's Gaze: Absolute Suppression."
The fifty disciples fell to their knees instantly, their hearts stopping from the sheer weight of the Primordial pressure. The Level 45 Elder rushed out, his sword glowing with jade light, but he froze when he saw Cain's eyes.
"You... you're the one who killed Feng," the Elder whispered, his sword trembling.
"I am the one who is going to kill your Sect Master," Cain said, stepping past him. "But for you, I have a different purpose. Tell me, Elder... have you ever felt your own soul being pulled through a needle?"
Cain's hand shot out, and the [Gluttony's Touch] flared.

Cain didn't even look back as the Jade Watchtower crumbled into dust behind him. He looked toward the distant horizon, where the white-peaked mountains of the Heavenly Pavilion sat like a crown on the world.
"One down," Cain murmured. "Seven to go."
[Warning: The Sect Master of the Heavenly Pavilion has declared a 'Holy War' against the Void Sovereign.]
[All allied sects are now mobilizing.]
Cain's smile widened, revealing teeth that looked a little too sharp to be human. "A Holy War? How generous of them to bring the food directly to me."
