Chapter 55 - A Beating on One's Conscience

Inside Miko's room.

"Is it really going to be okay? Miko's bed is just a single. Although it can technically fit two people, it'll definitely be a bit cramped," Touko Yotsuya said with a worried expression.

"If it's too crowded, I can just sleep on the floor," Gabriel replied, briefly scanning the room. She was quite satisfied with Miko Yotsuya's bedroom.

Though the room was small, the decor felt warm and cozy. Some cute plush dolls hung from the nearby bookshelf, and a pleasant fragrance lingered in the air.

"You're the guest. Even if we can't both fit, I'll definitely let you sleep on the bed."

"Really? I won't be polite when the time comes, then."

"To use your own words from earlier, there's no need for formalities between us."

Miko walked over to the bed and leaned down, placing a clean pillow on the mattress.

Seeing how well the two got along, Touko Yotsuya let out a reassured smile.

She decided not to disturb them for the time being.

Touko Yotsuya turned to head out. As she left, she said to the two inside, "I'm going to go prepare dinner. Miko, you help Gabriel get familiar with the house."

"Okay~!"

Hearing her daughter's response, Touko Yotsuya thoughtfully closed the door and headed downstairs.

Once she was gone, Kyousuke Yotsuya stealthily poked his head out from his own room, looking toward his sister's door with an uneasy gaze.

'Sister never mentioned having a friend like Gabriel before. As I thought, it's totally suspicious!'

Inside Miko's room.

Gabriel swung her fair, tender feet while sitting ungracefully at the computer desk. She stroked the edges of the laptop like a pilgrim, sighing with emotion. "This texture, this temperature, this beauty... it truly is a Sacred Object. It's been at least two and a half years since I've seen one."

"Your expression is a bit too much. It's just an ordinary computer, not as exaggerated as you make it sound."

"You simply don't understand my feelings right now... By the way, I have a good job here. Do you want to do it? You can earn money, and it only requires a little effort from you."

"Tell me about it. The money doesn't matter, as long as it's something I can help with."

Miko sat on the soft bed, looking seriously at Gabriel's petite back.

Since she intended to repay Gabriel's kindness, she hadn't planned on asking for any benefits.

The computer screen lit up. Gabriel shifted her gaze away from it and turned around to stare intently at Miko. She couldn't help but ask, "Are you serious?"

"Mhm!"

She nodded without a hint of hesitation...

Gabriel was momentarily at a loss.

She had planned to have Miko take the flowers from her Backpack Module and sell them, exchanging them for money she could spend online.

She intended to give Miko thirty percent as a fee for her hard work, while also letting her use the opportunity to earn some extra money for the household.

But if she took all one hundred percent...

"No, my conscience is beating me severely!"

Gabriel clutched her chest. It didn't actually hurt, but she still put on a pained expression and said, "I don't want to be hung from a streetlamp to swing like a pendulum. So Miko, you must take the money you're owed. It's what you deserve!"

Seeing Gabriel acting this way, Miko became flustered and frantic. "Th-That... Sorry! It was my oversight. I'll take it. What exactly do you want me to do?"

'I was waiting for you to say that!'

Gabriel snapped her fingers. In the next second, a pile of high-quality flower bouquets appeared in the corner of the room, and the fragrance of fresh flowers slowly filled the space.

There were even crystal-clear dewdrops on the vibrant petals, looking as if they had just been picked.

Seeing this, Miko quickly stood up and walked over.

She leaned down, picked up a bouquet of roses from the floor, and sniffed them. "So fragrant. Did you create these using an Angel's power?"

"I grew these with my own hands and carefully selected them as premium goods! These weren't created using Divine Arts!"

Gabriel raised her small head proudly. She then pointed at the bouquets on the floor. "Help me sell these first. We'll do a 30/70 Split on the profits. I'll check the market price for these kinds of bouquets online later, and then you can set the price however you like."

"But what if I can't sell them?"

"It doesn't matter. After all, you're the one supporting me, not the other way around. If they don't sell, whether you throw them away or give them to people, it's fine."

Gabriel waved her hand, straightened her posture, and moved the mouse straight toward a game. "Don't feel too much pressure. You're still young; you should enjoy your own youth. Just try it first. If it's too tiring, we won't sell them anymore!"

"Leave the Ghost problem to me. When you go to school tomorrow, I'll give you a Holy Cross. It contains several of my Guardian Divine Arts. Ordinary Evil Spirits won't even dream of hurting you!"

"I'm telling you, supporting me is a total win for you! Meeting me is the luckiest thing that's ever happened in your life!"

Gabriel spoke incessantly, not forgetting to praise herself at the end.

And her mouse clicked on the game San Guo Sha.

'Those who invade the Great Wu's territory shall be struck down and broken!'

Just as Gabriel was about to reminisce about her childhood, she was suddenly hugged from behind by Miko.

Even though the back of the chair was between them, she could still feel the unrest in the girl's heart.

"What's wrong? Acting like a hoodlum? Can you not delay my gaming?"

Gabriel reached out and lightly patted Miko's arms wrapped around her waist, complaining with feigned impatience.

"Eh? Didn't you just say we're best friends? What's wrong with a hug?"

"...True."

Gabriel's movements paused upon hearing that, and she couldn't help but laugh. "But you're acting like a child. Hug if you want. It's not like I'll lose any skin. Just don't get in the way of my game."

"Mhm."

Feeling Gabriel's body temperature, Miko confirmed that everything she had just experienced wasn't a dream and that the Angel in her arms wasn't an illusion. She suddenly felt an urge to cry.

It was truly wonderful to have met Gabriel.

An Angel had really come to her home...

Miko's current feelings couldn't be expressed in words. She couldn't help but slowly bury her face into Gabriel's soft blonde hair.

At that moment, the door opened.

"Sister! Mom told me to call you guys for dinner..."

Kyousuke Yotsuya opened the door with a calculated move. After shouting his line, he hurriedly looked at the situation inside.

He was worried his sister had fallen victim to that Gabriel's "poisonous hands."

However, the scene before him left Kyousuke completely dumbfounded.

What was he seeing?!

His gentle and virtuous sister was actually burying her face in Gabriel's hair like some kind of pervert?!

'So Gabriel is the one who fell victim, and Sister is the one with ill intentions.'

Realizing this, Kyousuke's heart instantly went half-cold.

He couldn't believe this reality.

Inside the room, the caught Miko was even more embarrassed. Her face flushed red as she hurriedly tried to explain, "Kyousuke, let me explain..."

"I don't know anything, and I didn't see anything!"

Kyousuke closed his eyes and quickly shut the door.

From outside the door, the sound of his footsteps rapidly heading downstairs could be heard.
