(DYLAN'S POV)
Roland stepped forward before I could answer, voice calm but carrying that quiet, undeniable command I loved. "I'm not here to take anything from your son or your pack, Alpha Garrick. I'm here because the bond chose us both. I'll prove my worth every single day if I have to. I won't be the reason your family or your pack suffers."
Mom started crying in earnest then, soft sobs that broke my heart. Dad pulled her close, one arm around her shoulders, but his gaze stayed hard on me. "We'll consult the high priest tonight. He'll read the bones, ask the Goddess directly. If she truly stands behind this... then we stand with you. But the pack won't take it easy, boy. You know that."
Oh I knew that all too well.
