Our house had never felt this silent before.
Not the soft, comforting silence I used to crave — the kind that comforted around us late at night when Mason would fall asleep on my chest, warm and safe, his slow breathing syncing with mine while the rest of the world disappeared. No… this silence was something else entirely. It was cold. Heavy. Scary. It crawled through every room like smoke, pressing against my skin until breathing itself felt difficult.
Ever since Mason found the blood hidden in the basement, everything between us had changed.
He barely spoke anymore.
Barely touched his food.
Barely even looked at me.
