(LIAM'S POV)
I leaned forward, my heart pounding as my mother continued her story.
"Everyone had gone out. My siblings were at school. My father was at work—he was a top military general in the elven realm, you see. My mother had gone to deliver a baby. She was one of the best healers in the realm, and there were many elves who couldn't self-heal due to certain conditions, so they relied on her."
She took a shaky breath, her hands twisting together in her lap.
"I was in my room, just finishing my bath. I was wrapped in a towel, standing in front of my mirror, when suddenly—"
Her hands trembled violently.
"A bright light appeared in my room. It was so bright, Liam. So blindingly bright that I thought I had gone blind. I screamed. I fell to the floor. I covered my eyes and begged for it to stop."
My chest tightened. "Mom..."
"But then the light started to dim. Slowly at first, then faster. And when I finally opened my eyes, there was a man standing in front of me."
