(MASON POV)
I turned just in time to see my mother rushing across the yard, Helen and Erica right behind her. Mom's face was a mixture of shock and joy, tears streaking down her cheeks as she threw herself at me.
"My baby," she sobbed, cupping my face in her hands. "Look at you. Look at what you've become."
"I'm still your baby, Mom," I said, laughing through the emotion caught in my throat.
She shook her head, her eyes tracing every feature of my face. "You look so much like your father." Her voice was barely audible, reverent and trembling. "Vaelion had that same golden glow. Those same ethereal features. You're his spitting image, Mason." She touched my cheek gently, her fingers cool against my warm skin. "You're so beautiful. So incredibly beautiful."
