(BLUE'S POV)
THE STORMROOT PACK
The first thing I saw was fire.
Not campfires. Not torches. Not the controlled, contained flames of a pack's ceremonial bonfire.
This was 'hellfire'. Roaring, uncontrolled, consuming everything it touched.
Houses were burning. Trees were burning. The sky itself seemed to burn, a deep, angry orange that bled into the clouds and turned the world into something out of a nightmare. Bodies lay scattered across the ground—wolves in their shifted forms, humans mated to pack members caught in the crossfire, children whose eyes were still open and staring at nothing.
I heard screaming.
I smelled blood.
I tasted ash and death on my tongue.
"HOLY SHIT," Fiona breathed—or rather, her wolf's growl translated into words in my mind. "BLUE—"
"GO!" I shouted. "FIND THE WOUNDED AND RESCUED THEM. KILL ANY INTRUDER THAT STANDS IN YOUR WAY. ALL OF THEM."
They didn't need any more encouragement.
