"Alicia, don't push this." Alexander's voice turned sharp, his patience snapping.
"What about the promise you made to Nana?" I asked, my voice unsteady as I held onto that last bit of hope.
He was always so quick to go to Lilian whenever she needed him… what did that say about the promise he made to stay by my side?
What kind of marriage was this, where my husband could be summoned away by another woman at any time?
"I only agreed to treat you well for Nana's sake. That doesn't mean I made any vows to you," he said coldly. "And right now, someone's life is at stake. Yet you're still arguing with me? Alicia, where is your empathy?"
His expression darkened further, impatience written all over his face. Without waiting for a response, he turned and strode out.
