Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: The Photographic Memory Meets the Cold Hard Fact

The surgical floor was still vibrating from the ambulance crash adrenaline when Christopher spotted her. Lexie Grey stood by the patient board, her intern scrubs looking a size too large and her eyes darting with the anxious brilliance of someone who had memorized the PDR for fun.

Season 4, Episode 1, Christopher thought, his internal script flipping pages. In the original, she's the 'girl at the bar' who annoys Derek and the 'surprise sister' who wrecks Meredith's fragile psychological equilibrium.

He stepped up beside her, his white coat rustling. "You're staring at the board like it's a Rorschach test, Grey. I suggest you stop. The names don't change just because you have a photographic memory."

Lexie jumped, her clipboard clattering against her hip. "I—I'm sorry, Dr. Wright. I was just... I'm Lexie. I'm an intern. I'm in Dr. Yang's group."

"I know who you are, Lexie," Christopher drawled, his voice a razor-sharp monotone. "And I know why you're vibrating like a tuning fork. You're looking for Meredith. Specifically, the sister who doesn't know you exist and currently has the emotional stability of nitroglycerin."

Lexie's face went ashen. "How did you—"

"I'm a triple-board certified prodigy, Lexie. I notice patterns. And your genetics are screaming," Christopher interrupted, turning her by the shoulder. "Come with me. I've decided to play diplomat today. It's less messy than letting you corner her in an elevator."

He led her toward the ICU bridge, where Meredith was charting the post-op progress of Stan Giamatti. Meredith looked hollowed out, her near-drowning still casting a shadow over her surgical mask.

"Grey," Christopher said, his voice dropping into a low, instructional hum.

Meredith looked up. "Dr. Wright? I'm busy. Stan's REBOA site is stable, but I need to—"

"Stan is fine. He's too stubborn to die, as we've discussed," Christopher said, stepping aside to reveal a trembling Lexie. "I have a referral for you. This is Lexie. She's a new intern. She also happens to be Thatcher Grey's daughter."

The silence was catastrophic. Meredith's pen hit the floor with a plastic clatter. She looked at Lexie, then at Christopher, her eyes flashing with a mixture of betrayal and vertigo.

"You... you brought her here?" Meredith whispered.

"I mitigated a disaster, Meredith," Christopher replied, his sarcasm returning like a shield. "I figured you'd prefer the unfiltered truth on a bridge rather than a melodramatic reveal in the middle of a craniotomy. You're sisters. Deal with the biology; I have Thai food and a litigator waiting for me."

He walked away, leaving the Grey sisters in a deadlock of shared DNA. He had softened the blow, but he knew the fallout was just beginning.

He pulled out his phone as he reached the valet stand. "I just broke the Grey sisterhood news. The hospital might spontaneously combust by morning. I need that scotch now. - C"
