EMILY TURNS to face me too, looking a little shy as she tucks back a stray strand of hair that's escaped her braid.
Maybe it shouldn't turn me on the way it does, but that shyness lights me up inside. It gives me an insatiable craving to get her to stop holding back. A craving to know what lies beneath that shyness.
The wolf in me strains against my self-control. He's hungry for her. To taste everything she keeps hidden.
"You really want to meet again?" she asks softly.
Just more than anything I've ever wanted in my life.
I keep it casual instead. "I wouldn't ask if I didn't."
"How about Thursday? I work first thing, so I get off early too."
"It's a date."
That secretive little smile of hers tugs at the corners of her lips. "Okay."
She's playing with the end of her long braid now. I imagine wrapping that braid around my fist and tugging her body to mine.
I don't. Not yet.
