THE DAY DAWNS cold and grey, like the others before it. Not even the holiday lights strung up all over town cheer me up.
I miss Garrett.
I think about him all the time.
Having a crush on your ex-boyfriend's father is a recipe for disaster, but it's not exactly like I have any control over it.
It doesn't help that it's one of those days at the diner where nothing seems to go right. Stephanie gets mad at me for not turning tables over quickly enough. I bump into Carly behind the counter and spill the cups of soda I'm carrying all over both of us. I forget to put in the order for curly fries that a customer asks for, and when he asks about them and I have to admit I forgot, he yells at me for wasting his valuable time. Of course he doesn't leave a tip.
When it's finally time for my break, I go outside and lean against the alleyway wall. It's frigid and damp and I'm cold wrapped even in my winter coat.
At least the quiet and fresh air help me clear my head.
