Chapter 15 - Chapter 14: First encounter with the simple path

At the center of the village, two groups were fighting.

On one side: angels, on the other: fallen angels, it was a battle between those who dwell in heaven and those who once dwelled there.

In that kind of confrontation, with powers and strength so similar, there was no clear outcome in sight. This dispute had already been going on for weeks.

However, at that moment something interrupted the battle.

Everyone stopped and looked up when they felt a powerful energy.

There was a small rectangular object that vanished out of nowhere, only for a huge ancient tower to appear in the air half a second later and begin falling toward them.

They had no time to think about what that object was or where the enormous tower had come from, they only knew they had to run to survive.

"Run, quickly!"

"Run!"

"Damn it, who dares?!"

Both sides tried to escape, however, only those who were farther away managed to get far enough due to the massive size of the tower.

When most of them thought they would die, many even trying to attack the tower or hold it back, it simply passed through all of them as if it were an illusion.

"What is this? It's just an illusion, ha ha ha," one of them laughed in relief.

But the relief did not last long, suddenly the imposing brick tower began to show cracks as it completely crumbled in on itself. Since they believed it could not harm them, everyone ignored the phenomenon and began trying to find whoever was responsible nearby.

But the cracks did not stop at the tower, they spread toward the ground and even toward the nearby houses at great speed. They were not natural cracks, every time they touched something it completely collapsed.

In five seconds the entire village had collapsed in on itself, looking like nothing more than a pile of debris.

But it did not end there, from the countless cracks in the ground and the ruins a strange black energy began to emerge that consumed the entire village before anyone could even react.

In the sky, Yuuji did not need to observe any longer to know what had happened, every single one of them had died, turning into ruins as well.

"Yuuji, are you okay?" Lala asked beside him with concern.

"Yes, it's just..."

ROAAAARRR!

"What is it this time?" Yuuji cursed in his mind when he heard the thunderous roar in the sky.

Looking toward the direction the sound came from, he saw a massive dragon approaching them.

"Yuuji, it's a dragon!" Lala said excitedly.

'Damn it...' Yuuji could only curse in his mind, in a world that is literally called Devil X Dragon, it was obvious that dragons were powerful, far more than the other races.

The dragon flew toward them at full speed before stopping a few meters in front of them and speaking.

"Human, you killed all my fun. How do you expect me to entertain myself now?" it said with an old voice.

Its completely black and dominant appearance, together with its voice, gave it a natural aura of superiority even without feeling its power.

But Yuuji only felt fear, even without any detection ability he knew none of his abilities could do anything to the being in front of him.

System, do I have any tickets?'

[You have...]

'Use them all' Yuuji interrupted.

Although he could survive death and resurrect in the world of To Love Ru, Lala could not.

"What is it, human? Weren't you brave a moment ago?" the dragon mocked as if it were watching the most entertaining show of its life.

"Come on, make your move" it said while waiting for Yuuji.

"At least I have to buy time for Lala," Yuuji thought and turned toward her to tell her to run.

But when he turned he saw Lala holding a metallic sphere, looking at him with a confused expression.

"What is it?" she said while throwing the sphere.

"Is that your move? Ha ha... Gggghhhhhhh!"

In the middle of his sentence the sphere that Lala had thrown in his direction fired a small spark that hit him directly and froze all his muscles instantly, causing the dragon to fall to the ground completely motionless.

"This... what just happened?"

"Do you like it?" Lala asked excitedly. "They are for hunting large animals, they paralyze all their muscles in case they have abilities that can be used without moving. My father gave it to me during my first big hunt," Lala explained.

"No, if you had something like that, why didn't you use it earlier?" Yuuji asked.

"Well, you told me not to do anything crazy, right? I thought you wanted to handle everything yourself," Lala said innocently.

"Ha... ha... ha ha ha." Hearing that, Yuuji started laughing immediately, first weakly and then louder and louder, causing Lala to look at him in confusion.

"No, there is no need for you to avoid using your items, we are not in an action and honor manga" Yuuji said.

'Who would choose to fight the hard way when there is a much easier way?

I am an idiot.'

"In that case, let me deal with the dragon," Lala said while pulling a sword out of her D-Dial.

"Wait!" Yuuji stopped her. "I need to finish it myself so it counts for the mission."

"Right, here!" Lala handed him the sword. "Just tell it what you want."

"What I want?" Yuuji said in confusion. "I want to kill the dragon."

As soon as he said that, the sword lit up and left his hands, moving on its own toward the dragon as if it were flying, stabbing directly into its chest.

"Grrrr..." the dragon roared for a moment. It was so anticlimactic that Yuuji doubted it was dead, but the system notification that appeared in front of him confirmed its death.

Lala approached the dragon and stored the sphere she had thrown earlier and the sword back into her D-Dial, then she approached the dragon's corpse and stored it as well.

"What are you doing?" Yuuji asked.

"Materials. I thought about creating a Cyborg Dragon, it can serve as a mount, fight, and it would also look really cool, isn't it a good idea?" she said while looking at Yuuji with sparkling eyes, clearly waiting for his approval.

Faced with such an idea, Yuuji could only raise his thumb and congratulate her.

"You are amazing" he replied immediately.

At the same time, in his mind he could not help but think about something.

'System, could it be that Chaos used me?'

[What do you mean, host?]

'Look at her, isn't she clearly much more chaotic? I think Chaos only used me to bring her here and watch her do crazy things' Yuuji said.

For a second the system fell silent, thinking that maybe that was the case.

But after thinking it through carefully, it gave a negative answer.

[Impossible, host, Chaos does not use people outside the system, at least not to start chaos.

The goal of Chaos when bringing her was simply to prevent you from leaving quickly upon dying.

As for why she is more chaotic, it is because you are still weak, host. Once you grow stronger you will become the personification of chaos.

Too many things happened this time that caused the situation to turn out this way.

Chaos is not an entity with consciousness, it is more like a force, like luck, karma, or destiny, but if it had consciousness I am sure even it would be surprised to see this result.]

'So that is how it is, huh?' Yuuji thought with a smile.

[Host, what are you planning?]

'Hehe, since you will keep bringing chaos into my life, then I will fight fire with fire and use my own chaos to deal with it' Yuuji replied with a plan in mind.

The system stayed silent for a moment, not knowing what to say.

On one hand, the host had found a new way to avoid doing his tasks.

But on the other, two sources of chaos clashing, the winner could only be an even greater chaos.

So remembering that its motto is 'The more chaos the better' it could only remain silent.

"Then Lala, let's go after the last objective we have left and complete the mission" Yuuji said, drawing Lala's attention as she continued planning her cyborg dragon.

...

After some time, on a mountain elsewhere there was a group of demons.

The surrounding terrain was exactly what you would imagine from a demonic territory, completely black, in ruins, and with lava in many places.

Even the mountain behind them had originally been an active volcano.

In reality, this kind of stereotypical environment is not something all demons enjoy, it just so happens that the demon in charge here is extremely eccentric and enjoys these things.

"Lord, news."

"What is it?" the demon asked arrogantly from his throne. He had recently become a Supreme Rank demon, something many demons could only dream of during their entire lives, only one step below the four Maou, so his arrogance had justification.

"The nearby village was attacked, both sides were killed."

"And why would I care about a fight between pigeons and crows?" the demon said without interest.

"The village fell because of a strange energy. And when it fell, a dragon appeared there."

Hearing that, the demon finally became serious.

"A dragon? That could be a problem."

"No, sir, the dragon is dead. Not only that, just a few minutes after appearing its energy disappeared, and there were no signs of battle at the scene."

"Someone who can kill a dragon in minutes and with such ease would have been a problem before, but now I am a Supreme demon," the demon said, taking the matter seriously despite his confidence.

"Come," he said while standing up and walking toward the window.

There, hundreds of demons could be seen training their magic and even a few training their bodies.

Contrary to the present timeline of DxD, in the past, during the great war, the number of demons was not only much greater, they were also real warriors, not like the demons of later eras who do not even train because they know their bodies improve on their own.

"This, at the moment, is only a camp, but soon we will be legends, remembered by everyone in the future as the strongest demon army. As long as we remain united we have nothing to fear. And I, their leader, will be remembered as..."

Boom!

Before he could say his name a nearby explosion sounded, drawing his attention and interrupting his grand speech.

The demon, who had only turned away from the window for a few seconds to give his speech, turned back again only to see terror.

What should have been an inactive volcano had activated again, not only that, it erupted with impossible force even compared to when it had been active.

"Impossible, that volcano should have been inactive, and besides that, that force cannot be natural, it is as if someone widened the underground lava paths," the demon analyzed, but after thinking about it he did not worry too much.

"Either way, we all have resistance to fire and lava, tell everyone we are abandoning the camp."

"Sir, problems!" a subordinate said while bursting into the room in agitation.

"What is it?" The demon leader had a bad feeling.

"We cannot leave, sir, there is an impenetrable barrier."

"A barrier?" the demon repeated and a thought crossed his mind.

"The eruption of the volcano and a barrier... could they be planning what I think? No, that would be foolish." He muttered, but quickly dismissed the thought and gave simple orders.

"Keep attacking the barrier, it cannot hold forever, and the volcano will not remain in eruption forever, we only have to endure for a while" he said with confidence.
