I glanced around Daisy's room and packed a small bag of her favorite items. When I find her, I know that she will be excited to see them.
After looking around the room one last time, I took a deep sniff of her pillow before stepping away.
"I'm ready," I told Kevin the moment I stepped out of the room. Kevin nodded curtly, pulled out his phone, and dialed a number. I noticed that the call connected as he placed the phone to his ear, but Kevin didn't say anything till he ended the call.
"He's outside and waiting close to the infirmary. Because of the coronation, the Pack's security is weak.
I nodded, then stared at him. This was like the first time I was really looking at Kevin, and his light grey eyes seemed kinder than I always remembered. His thin lips were set in a straight and serious line that would have made me laugh if things weren't like this.
I took in a large gulp of air. "Thank you so much, Kevin, and please tell me if you hear anything about Daisy."
Kevin gave no reaction for close to a minute, but he eventually nodded and then pointed down the hallway. I returned the nod and made my way down quickly.
True to his words, nobody even paid me any attention as I made my way to the infirmary. Before the research started, I had spent almost every minute at the infirmary. Healing came easily to me, and with the help of my wolf, I had been able to discover many herbs that helped shifters.
This was another reason why I couldn't believe Vanessa. If Daisy had been seriously sick, they would have called me.
Suddenly, I missed Lily. If she were here, she would have been cursing and scoffing in my head the whole time.
I saw the red car that Kevin mentioned and opened the back door. I stood while holding the door open until the person at the driver's raised his hand and gave me a thumbs up.
I glanced back at the Pack twice as we left, and when we finally passed the security point without any difficulty, I finally felt myself relax a little.
The car moved quickly until we left the Pack's border and entered the closest human city. At the back of my mind, I couldn't help but think of Rhys Carter's offer.
Would he be able to fight against the Sullivans for the research rights?
I sat up when the car came to a slow stop in front of a small building. It had a small sign that read 'Catherine's Guest House.'
The man in front turned to me, "Ma'am, this place doesn't show on the map, so you can stay here for the night." he leaned forward, opened the glove compartment, and then stretched a large and fat brown envelope to me.
"Kevin said to tell you that you can't use the card that Jason gave you for now, so he asked me to give you this."
The envelope was bulging and couldn't close, so I saw the contents inside immediately, and I had to resist the urge to scream.
This was a lot of money.
As though reading my thoughts, the man continued. "This is the closest human city, so they have a close relationship with the Iron Ridge Pack. You can't stay here for long, so the money is for you to settle down in a place that Iron Ridge doesn't control.
Iron Ridge was a small pack; we barely controlled this city, but now that Jason married Lucy Sullivan, I felt that things would change very quickly.
I hugged the envelope to my chest, "Tell Kevin that I would pay back in double."
The man smiled and nodded gently, and then I heard the click of the door unlocking. I thanked him one more time and got down.
For a guest house that wasn't on the map, I didn't expect that it would be this stylish. The floors were spotless, and it had a very cozy air to it.
The lady at the reception gave me a bright smile. "Miss Rena?" she asked, and I nodded in response.
At the same time, I couldn't help but wonder how Kevin pulled all of this off. Did he know all of these were going to happen?
Considering that he was Jason's Gamma, it was possible he knew everything happening in the Pack but couldn't do anything to help me while I was still in the dark.
Was it possible that he knew where Daisy was but couldn't tell me?
"I will lead you to your room now. Your reservation is for two days, and if you would like to extend it, then please let me know 12 hours in advance."
"Alright, I would." Although now that I knew I wasn't completely safe here, I was going to leave early tomorrow.
The receptionist led me to a room at the end of the first floor and then handed me a key. "All yours,"
I had just entered the room when my phone started ringing. I pulled it out and saw Jason's name on the screen.
"Where the fuck are you?" Jason yelled the moment the call connected.
I held back a sneer. This was perhaps the real him that he always kept hidden from me. "I'm searching for my daughter."
The other end was silent for a while before Jason spoke again. "Are you still in the Pack?"
"You just got married, don't you think it's inappropriate for your wife to meet your…" I paused as I suddenly realized that I didn't know what I was to him anymore.
Mistress? Fling? Baby mama?
Jason's sigh pulled me out of my thoughts, and I noticed his tone had softened.
"Rena, come back home. Lucy wouldn't mind if you stayed the night."
"If you have Daisy there with you, do a video call, and I would ask her some questions that no AI can answer correctly. If you can do that, I will come back immediately."
There's a long silence on the other end of the call for close to a minute, or maybe that's just what it felt like to me.
"Rena, you worked so hard on getting to this point with the research. You can't just throw it away. I know it's hard for you to…"
I have a feeling that what he is going to say is only going to make me even angrier, so I ended the call and turned off the phone.
I tried to run through my plans quickly, which was quite simple. Head to Carter Pharmaceuticals early tomorrow morning and see if I can strike a deal with them.
The chances of Alpha Rhys accepting my offer might be slim, but I had to try.
As the Alpha that ruled the entire Eastern Region, Alpha Rhys was my best chance at finding Daisy quickly.
I grabbed Daisy's favorite teddy and hugged it tightly. I wondered how Daisy would be feeling right now, wherever she was.
With everything that happened, sleeping would be impossible. But a part of me really wanted to sleep and wake up tomorrow to find out it was all just a dream.
Goddess, please make it a dream.
Just as I snapped my eyes closed, I suddenly realized why her name sounded familiar earlier.
Five years ago… wasn't Lucy Sullivan the girl that...
