Chapter 25 - Chapter 23 — The Hunters Mark Her

The forest did not return to normal.

Even after the light faded… even after the beast lowered itself… something remained.

A tension.

A warning.

Elara felt it first.

A sharp sting spread across the back of her neck. She flinched, her hand instinctively rising to touch the spot.

"What is it?" Lucien asked immediately.

"I—" She hesitated. "I don't know. It just…"

Her words cut off as a strange heat pulsed beneath her skin.

Then—

A faint symbol flickered briefly across her wrist.

Silver.

Glowing.

Gone in an instant.

Gamma saw it.

His expression darkened. "Alpha…"

Lucien's gaze snapped to Elara's arm. "Show me."

"I didn't—" she started, but the symbol flared again.

This time stronger.

Clearer.

A crescent shape, wrapped in sharp, jagged lines—like claws closing in.

Lucien's face hardened.

"No."

Elara's stomach dropped. "What is it?"

Gamma didn't soften it.

"They've marked you."

The words landed like a blow.

"Marked me?" she repeated.

"For tracking," Gamma said. "For claiming."

Lucien stepped closer, his voice low and controlled.

"The hunters don't chase blindly. Once they mark a target… they don't stop."

A cold wave of fear crept through Elara.

"They can find me anywhere?"

Lucien didn't answer.

That silence said enough.

The beast behind her shifted, letting out a low, uneasy growl. Its blue eyes flickered toward the forest, as if sensing something approaching.

Gamma turned sharply. "We're not alone."

The air changed.

Again.

But this time—

It wasn't ancient.

It wasn't wild.

It was precise.

Calculated.

From the edge of the trees, a figure stepped into the clearing.

Then another.

And another.

Black-clad.

Masked.

Weapons gleaming faintly under the red moon.

Hunters.

The pack reacted instantly, forming a defensive line.

Low growls filled the clearing.

Lucien moved in front of Elara without hesitation.

"You shouldn't have come here," he said coldly.

One of the hunters stepped forward, lowering his hood slightly. His eyes were sharp, focused, unwavering.

"We didn't come for you, Alpha."

His gaze shifted.

Locked onto Elara.

"We came for what you're hiding."

The mark on Elara's wrist burned.

Brighter.

Stronger.

As if responding to them.

Her breath caught. "They can feel it…"

Lucien's voice dropped into something deadly.

"You're not taking her."

The hunter tilted his head slightly.

"That's not your decision."

In one swift motion, he raised his hand—

And the hunters moved.

Blades flashed.

Bolts of silver shot through the air.

The clearing erupted into chaos once again.

Gamma lunged forward, intercepting the first attacker. Lycans shifted mid-strike, meeting steel with claws and fury.

Lucien didn't move from Elara's side.

"Stay with me," he said.

But Elara could barely hear him.

The mark on her wrist pulsed violently now.

Each pulse sending waves of energy through her body.

The pendant—what remained of it—glowed faintly at her chest.

The beast rose behind her, towering and furious, its growl shaking the ground as it stepped forward.

Protective.

Possessive.

Bound.

The hunter leader didn't flinch.

Instead—

He smiled.

"You see it now, don't you?" he said, his voice carrying through the chaos. "That power was never meant to be free."

Elara's eyes burned silver.

The energy inside her surged again, wild and unstable.

"I didn't ask for this," she said, her voice shaking.

"No," the hunter replied calmly.

"But we did."

He lifted his weapon.

And aimed it directly at her.

Lucien stepped in front of her instantly.

"You'll have to go through me."

The hunter's smile widened.

"That was always the plan."

The mark on Elara's wrist flared—

And somewhere far beyond the forest…

Something answered.
