Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – The Day I Died

The rain fell hard against the windshield.

Ethan gripped the steering wheel tightly as the highway lights blurred through the water streaking across the glass. The wipers moved back and forth in a desperate rhythm but the storm was winning.

Visibility was terrible.

The night felt heavy.

Something about it made his chest tighten.

He glanced at the phone resting in the passenger seat. The screen was still lit from the last message he had received.

A message from someone he trusted.

Someone he had worked with for years.

Someone who had just destroyed everything.

The words still echoed in his mind.

"I'm sorry Ethan. The investors chose my version of the project. It's business."

Business.

That single word had erased five years of work.

Five years of sleepless nights.

Five years of sacrifice.

Ethan clenched his jaw as another memory surfaced.

Earlier that evening he had walked into the conference room expecting the biggest breakthrough of his career. The product he had designed was supposed to revolutionize small online businesses.

A system that could analyze market trends and guide entrepreneurs to make profitable decisions.

He had poured everything into it.

But when the presentation began, the slides on the screen were not his.

They were a copy.

His research.

His framework.

His system.

Presented by the one person who had access to everything.

Daniel.

His business partner.

His friend.

The room had applauded Daniel.

Investors congratulated him.

Contracts were signed.

And Ethan stood there in silence while his life's work was stolen.

No one questioned it.

No one even noticed.

Daniel had played his role perfectly.

Later that night Ethan confronted him outside the building.

Daniel did not deny it.

He simply shrugged.

"You're brilliant, Ethan. But brilliance alone doesn't win. Timing does."

Ethan remembered the cold smile that followed.

"Besides, someone like you will recover eventually. Someone like me needs this opportunity now."

Those words still burned inside his chest.

The rain grew heavier as Ethan tightened his grip on the steering wheel.

His vision blurred slightly.

Not from the storm.

From regret.

He should have protected his work better.

He should have been more careful.

He should have seen the betrayal coming.

Five years.

Five years wasted.

The highway ahead curved slightly as Ethan tried to steady his breathing.

His thoughts raced through every mistake he had made.

Trusting the wrong person.

Ignoring warning signs.

Working quietly while others built influence.

The worst part was not losing the project.

The worst part was realizing how naive he had been.

A flash of headlights appeared suddenly in front of him.

Too bright.

Too close.

Ethan's eyes widened.

A massive truck had drifted slightly into his lane.

The road was slick with rain.

The truck driver tried to correct the steering but the tires lost grip.

Everything happened too fast.

Ethan slammed the brakes.

The car skidded violently.

The sound of screeching metal filled the air.

His heart pounded.

The truck grew larger.

Closer.

Closer.

There was no escape.

Ethan felt time slow down.

In that final moment his mind became strangely calm.

Images flashed through his thoughts.

His childhood dream of building something meaningful.

The nights he stayed awake coding until sunrise.

The excitement of creating ideas that could change people's lives.

All of it ending like this.

On a dark highway.

Because he trusted the wrong person.

The truck collided with his car.

The impact exploded like thunder.

Metal twisted.

Glass shattered.

Pain surged through his body.

Then everything faded.

The world collapsed into silence.

Darkness surrounded him completely.

For a moment Ethan thought this was the end.

Then something strange happened.

A faint sound echoed in the darkness.

Not a voice.

Not quite mechanical either.

Just a presence.

A message forming slowly in the void.

"System initialization in progress."

Ethan frowned slightly.

Was this a hallucination?

His mind struggled to understand.

Then the darkness deepened.

His consciousness drifted further away.

Memories faded.

Time disappeared.

And everything went silent again.

Ethan opened his eyes.

Sunlight streamed through a nearby window.

Warm.

Bright.

Comfortably ordinary.

He blinked several times as his vision slowly adjusted.

The ceiling above him looked unfamiliar.

White paint.

A small rotating fan.

Posters on the walls.

The air smelled faintly of detergent and cheap air freshener.

Ethan sat up slowly.

His heart raced as confusion filled his mind.

Where was he?

The last thing he remembered was the highway.

The rain.

The truck.

The crash.

He quickly looked down at his hands.

No injuries.

No blood.

No pain.

Just normal hands.

Younger hands.

His breathing became uneven.

This did not make sense.

He swung his legs off the bed and stood up carefully.

The room around him looked small but familiar.

A narrow desk stood near the window.

Books were stacked beside a laptop.

Clothes were scattered on a chair.

Then Ethan froze.

He knew this room.

His eyes slowly moved across the walls.

The old bookshelf.

The worn carpet.

The faded university schedule pinned near the door.

This was his college dorm room.

His heart skipped a beat.

That was impossible.

Ethan walked toward the desk slowly as memories resurfaced.

This dorm.

This university.

This stage of his life.

It had been years ago.

He reached for the phone lying on the desk and turned it on.

The screen lit up instantly.

The date appeared.

Ethan stared at it.

His breath stopped.

Five years earlier.

The phone slipped slightly in his hand as shock rippled through his mind.

Five years.

Before the startup.

Before the betrayal.

Before everything collapsed.

Ethan leaned against the desk as his thoughts raced wildly.

Had he survived the crash?

Was this a dream?

A hallucination?

Or something far stranger?

His chest rose and fell as he tried to calm himself.

Slowly the pieces began to connect.

He remembered the strange message in the darkness.

System initialization.

His eyes widened slightly.

At that exact moment a soft glow appeared in front of him.

A translucent interface formed in the air.

Floating text appeared clearly before his eyes.

Wealth Growth System Activated

Ethan stared in stunned silence.

The glowing interface expanded slowly.

More words appeared beneath the title.

Welcome, Host.

You have been granted a second chance.

Primary Objective: Build wealth from zero.

System rewards will be granted based on financial growth, strategic decisions, and skill development.

Ethan's heartbeat accelerated.

This was not a dream.

The interface remained perfectly stable.

Real.

Responsive.

Alive.

A new notification appeared.

First mission will be issued shortly.

Ethan swallowed slowly as excitement and disbelief mixed inside him.

A second chance.

Five years earlier.

A system designed to build wealth.

The opportunity he never had before.

This time everything would be different.

This time he would not trust blindly.

This time he would control his own future.

Ethan clenched his fists slightly.

The betrayal that once destroyed him now became fuel.

But revenge was not his priority.

Not yet.

First he needed power.

Knowledge.

Wealth.

And the system floating in front of him might be the key to everything.

The interface flickered once more.

A final notification appeared.

Preparing Mission One.

Ethan's eyes narrowed as anticipation built inside him.

His second life had just begun.

The glowing system screen suddenly flashed brighter.

A new message appeared.
