Chapter 20 - Interlude—Miss Villainess's Diary

Time sure has passed quickly.

Since Lord Agraviel canceled my engagement and my family cast me aside, so much has happened.

For the first time, I entered The Beast Mountain.

For the first time, I fought a Boss Floor and lost.

For the first time, I realized just how large and beautiful the Dungeon City is.

For the first time, I recognized that even in this city, evil and darkness are still lurking. Something that once felt distant and elusive has suddenly become close and real, and I am actually quite scared.

Who could have imagined that, in the same city where I live, people are suffering and even being forced into slavery? That was unimaginable to me until now.

I didn't truly believe Mister Roost when he told me that people like The Rats are everywhere.

No, that's not quite right.

I just didn't want to believe it.

But seeing the way Timmy looked when he returned to his sister's side made it impossible to deny.

Maybe that's why Gyllena has changed. She encounters people like The Rats, or even worse, every day.

Perhaps Mister Roost is right: human relationships are materialistic at their core.

What follows is what we typically believe constructs those relationships.

The moment you lose your value, people abandon you—just like Lord Agraviel and my family did to me.

Now I am just a girl, alone and weak.

That makes me wonder why Mister Roost extended his hand toward me.

I have often avoided thinking about it, but now I can't contain my curiosity any longer.

He doesn't want my body; I've confirmed that. He often calls me beautiful or refers to me as "Villainess" with joy in his expression, but his eyes remain pure. He looks at me not as a woman, but as something else...something I am not fully aware of.

What is certain is that he is genuine. He is happy when I am happy, and he is concerned when I am sad.

I've also realized that Mister Roost wants something from me, but I can't quite pinpoint what it is.

Hey, Mister Roost.

I wonder...

Who am I in your eyes?

Today is the opening day of our restaurant.

Mrs. Roost always wakes me in the morning. I thank her for that, but why does she always talk about Mister Roost around me? It's embarrassing.

Fortunately, Mister Roost never teases me about it. I don't think I could face him if he started to.

The day turned out to be busier and more tiring than I expected.

Sirry passed out three times today. The poor girl. I hope she can get accustomed to the work quickly; otherwise, it will be hard for us to see her collapse like that.

Gerena... I hope she can take her work more seriously.

As for Carole, as expected, she is amazing. She serves customers swiftly and professionally. People like her, even though she sometimes says rude things to them.

According to Mister Roost, that's the charm of a beautiful maid. However, to be honest, I don't really understand what he means.

Still, today was truly an eye-opener for me. Mrs. Roost is quite a popular woman around here.

Most of the customers—about 60%—came to our place because they heard about her cooking. Even Mister Roost was shocked. But Mrs. Roost is indeed a charming mature woman, so perhaps that's to be expected.

So much has happened.

In the future, I'm certain that many more experiences await me.

Just thinking about it fills my heart with anticipation.

I wonder what kind of strange ideas Mister Roost will come up with tomorrow.

I can't wait to work at the restaurant again!
