Despite all of the tortures he endured and was afflicted with, surprisingly, Rathanak didn't die from it; he was just coughing out blood, bled from his mouth and wounds, and grunting in pain. Sora and the Black Feathers were astonished at his ability to survive all of that torture that would have killed him. In reality, Rathanak had a spirit of immortality living within him that allowed this ability not to die when he was 11 years old. Although it wasn't an elixir for immortality, he could still die of old age. But this ability shields him from death in this life.
