Chapter 30 - Home

Jay's POV

Two weeks later.

The moment I stepped out of the car in front of our house, a strange feeling settled in my chest.

London.

I hadn't been here in five years.

The house looked exactly the same—the tall iron gates, the wide front garden, the familiar stone walls that once held so many memories.

The front door opened before I could even ring the bell.

"Jayjay!"

My mom rushed forward and hugged me tightly.

"You're finally home."

I smiled softly and hugged her back. "Hi, Mom."

My father walked over a moment

"Welcome back," he said warmly.

"It's good to be home," I replied.

We spent the afternoon catching up. Mom kept asking about Oslo, my projects, my friends, and my life there.

Then the doorbell rang.

Mom glanced toward the hallway.

"That must be them."

My heart skipped slightly.

When the door opened,

Adrian walked in first with a warm smile.

"Jay," he greeted.

"Adrian," I replied politely.

Behind him were his parents.

Adrian's mother stepped forward gently.

"It's been a long time," she said.

"Yes," I answered calmly.

For a moment the room felt a little awkward, like everyone was remembering the past at the same time.

Then my father spoke.

"Well, don't just stand there. Come in."

Everyone moved into the living room.

We sat down and began talking—about work, about the engagement, about the preparations happening around the house.

Adrian looked at me curiously.

"I heard your projects in Oslo are getting a lot of attention," he said.

I shrugged lightly. "Just doing my job."

"Don't be modest," my mom said proudly. "Her last building was featured in an international magazine."

Adrian's father nodded approvingly.

"That's impressive."

The conversation flowed more easily than I expected.

It was strange, but the tension that once existed between our families was almost gone.

Then Adrian's mother said something that surprised me.

"We were thinking… since the engagement ceremony is only a week away, it might be easier if we stayed here."

My mom smiled immediately.

"That's exactly what I was going to suggest."

Adrian laughed. "Looks like the decision is already made."

My father nodded.

"You're all welcome to stay here until the ceremony."

For a moment the house felt lively in a way it hadn't in years.

More voices.

More movement.

More people.

Adrian glanced around the room.

"Keifer couldn't come today," he said suddenly. "Work meetings."

My expression stayed calm.

"Oh."

But inside, something shifted.

Adrian continued casually

.

"He'll probably come later this week."

I simply nodded.

"That makes sense."

Because the engagement was only one week away.

And sooner or later…

Keifer would walk through that same door.

Jay's POV — London Day Out

The house had been noisy since early morning.

Voices filled the halls as both families discussed decorations, guest lists, and engagement preparations. My mom and Adrian's mother had practically taken over the dining room with papers and notebooks spread everywhere.

I escaped the moment my phone buzzed.

Hannah: We're outside.

I smiled and grabbed my coat.

"Going out?" Mom asked as I walked toward the door.

"Yeah," I said. "Meeting my friends."

"Don't be late," she replied. "We still have things to plan tonight."

I know," I laughed.

When I stepped outside,

Hannah immediately waved dramatically from across the street.

"Jay!"

Liam and Elise stood beside her, looking around at the neighborhood.

"This place is huge," Liam said when I reached them.

"It's London," I replied with a shrug.

Noel leaned against the car, watching me carefully.

"How's it feel being back?" he asked.

I looked around at the familiar streets.

"Strange," I admitted.

"Ready for the official London tour?" Hannah asked excitedly.

"You're the tourist here, not me," I reminded her.

"Exactly," she grinned. "So you're the guide."

We spent the afternoon walking through the city

Noel mostly stayed beside me.

"You built your life in Oslo," he said as we crossed a street.

"Yeah."

"And now you're back here like nothing happened."

I shrugged slightly.

"Life moves forward."

He studied me for a moment but didn't push further.
