Chapter: Don't Leave Me Alone
(Keifer's POV)
"Sir, you can't go inside."
The words felt like a wall.
Cold.
Unmovable.
"I'm not asking," I said, my voice low. "I'm telling you."
"I understand, but the treatment is critical. You need to wait."
Wait.
That word again.
My jaw clenched, but I stepped back.
Not because I wanted to.
Because I had no choice.
The doors closed.
And she was gone.
Again.
I stood there for a long moment.
Then slowly sat down.
Then stood up again.
Then paced.
Then stopped.
I couldn't stay still.
She's in there.
Alone.
My hands ran through my hair, again and again.
"Just… be okay," I muttered. "Just be okay…"
"Keifer," Celestine's voice came softly, "you should sit—"
"I'm fine."
I wasn't.
"Eat something," Adrian added. "You haven't eaten since—"
"I said I'm fine."
But my vision blurred slightly.
My body felt… off.
Heavy.
I ignored it.
Time passed.
Hours.
Too many hours.
Every time the door moved—
My heart stopped.
Then dropped again when it wasn't her.
"Water," someone said, handing me a bottle.
I didn't take it.
"Keifer, this isn't helping anyone," Celestine said, her voice breaking slightly.
"You need to take care of yourself too—"
"I'll take care of myself when she's okay."
Silence.
My chest felt tight.
Too tight.
"She's strong," Percy said quietly. "She'll be okay."
I nodded.
But my hands were shaking.
"Jay…" I whispered under my breath.
The lights above felt too bright.
The air too thin.
My vision blurred again.
Stronger this time.
I tried to steady myself—
But my legs felt weak.
"Keifer—?" Celestine's voice sounded distant.
" keifer , hey wake up," I heard someone say
It felt distant
Everything tilted.
And then—
Darkness.
[Jay's POV]
The world came back slowly.
Voices.
Light.
Soft movement.
I blinked weakly.
Everything felt heavy.
But… I was awake.
"Jay?" a nurse's voice came. "Can you hear me?"
I nodded slightly.
"Good," she said gently. "Your treatment went well. You just need rest."
Treatment.
Hospital.
Memories rushed back.
Slowly.
But clearly.
"Keifer…" I whispered.
The nurse hesitated slightly.
Then smiled softly. "He's outside."
I tried to sit up.
Failed.
"He's been here the whole time," she added quietly.
My chest tightened.
"Can I see him…?" I asked softly.
A few minutes later—
The door opened.
And they brought him in.
Keifer.
My breath caught.
He looked… terrible.
Pale.
Exhausted.
His hair messy, eyes red, like he hadn't slept in days.
"Keifer…" I whispered.
He didn't respond immediately.
Just stood there.
Looking at me.
Like he was making sure I was real.
Then he walked closer.
Slowly.
"Jay…" his voice came out rough. "You're—"
"I'm fine," I said quickly.
"You're not fine," he said immediately.
"And you are?" I shot back,
my voice weak but sharp.
He blinked.
"You didn't eat," I said, frowning slightly. "Did you?"
Silence.
"You didn't sleep either."
Still silence.
"Keifer," I whispered, more serious now.
"I was waiting for you," he said quietly.
My heart hurt.
"That doesn't mean you stop taking care of yourself," I said softly.
"What if something happened to you?"
"I don't care about me."
"I do."
That made him freeze.
I slowly reached for his hand.
My grip weak—
But steady.
"I need you okay," I whispered. "You don't get to fall apart like this."
His eyes dropped to our hands.
Then back to me.
"You scared me," he admitted, voice breaking slightly.
"You scared me too," I said softly.
Silence filled the space between us.
But this time—
It wasn't heavy.
I lifted my hand slightly, brushing his cheek weakly.
"You look worse than me," I murmured.
A faint, broken smile appeared on his lips.
"Come here," I whispered.
He hesitated for a second.
Then leaned closer.
Carefully.
Like I might break.
I rested my head lightly against him.
Even in my weak state—
I held him.
"It's okay," I whispered softly. "I'm here."
And for the first time—
He let himself breathe.
A knock came.
The doctor stepped in.
"How is she?" Keifer asked immediately.
The doctor gave a small, reassuring smile.
"The treatment was successful."
My heart relaxed.
"She's stable now," he continued. "Her condition is under control. We'll continue monitoring, but for now… she's safe."
Safe.
That word felt like everything.
Keifer's shoulders dropped slightly.
Like he had been holding the weight of the world—
And finally let it go.
I squeezed his hand gently.
"I told you," I whispered.
He looked at me.
Eyes softer now.
Still tired.
Still emotional.
But calmer.
And this time—
We both knew.
We made it through.
