Celeste;
"We're officially getting married today."
Romano's words echo in my ears, causing a ringing so loud, I squint from the imaginary headache it's eliciting.
"What? Today?" I give him wide, round eyes.
Which he simply nods to while buttoning the sleeves of his dress shirt. "It's too soon, I know."
I shift in bed. The comforter feeling like a heavy weight on top of my body.
"Coupled with everything that happened recently," he adds, with an apologetic notch to his tone.
My eyelids flutter shut as my lungs drag in breath. "I…I—"
Hell, I don't even know what to say.
Romano's Italian loafers pad on the floor in my direction, his frame darkening the rays of light trickling in on me. "I'm sorry, my father can be…" he wets his lips, seemingly searching for the right words, "overbearing," he says.
Forcing a boulder-sized lump down my throat, I adjust once more, "It's fine." I breathe, maybe I wasn't ready? "I just didn't think it'll be this soon after what happened."
