Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Charge! Charge! Charge!!!

Chapter 26: Charge! Charge! Charge!!!

The pickup drove carefully on the highway. Several walkers on the roadside staggered toward them.

Before the walkers could get close, the window opened and a gun barrel emerged.

Accompanied by several muffled gunshots, walkers fell one after another.

Not long after driving, Caesar picked up the walkie-talkie and issued an order:

"We're about to reach our destination. Everyone stay alert."

With several crackles, the vehicles pulled over to the roadside and stopped.

Car doors opened. Merle got out with a fierce grin, grabbed a machete, and charged toward nearby walkers.

His subordinates charged forward with him. Daryl took out his crossbow and provided support from behind.

Several minutes later, nearby walkers were swept clean.

The rest also got out of their vehicles.

Caesar twisted his body. He'd removed his previous cowboy outfit and changed into riot gear.

Morales, T-Dog, and several team members were dressed the same way. Most held sharp cold weapons in their hands and carried firearms on their backs.

This attire was for the assault team.

Merle shook blood droplets from his machete, breathing heavily as he walked over. "Boss, do we just charge in and grab supplies?"

"Come here, Glenn and Jimmy, you two come over." Caesar ignored Merle's brutish words and beckoned to Daryl. "Daryl, you come too."

Seeing several people gather around, Caesar looked toward Glenn and Jimmy.

"Listen carefully. Your two squads are mainly responsible for reconnaissance—going in to scout."

"Our target is all food. As long as it's edible, we want it. If time is tight, we prioritize high-calorie, high-sugar foods. Understand?"

After Caesar explained clearly, his gaze looked directly at the two.

This time, Glenn and Jimmy didn't avoid his eyes. Glenn nodded solemnly. "I understand."

Mm, showing some maturity now.

Caesar praised them silently in his heart, then looked toward Merle and Daryl.

"Daryl, your crossbow is very accurate. You'll take Merle and several team members to patrol outside, mainly supporting us and Glenn's teams."

"Once a large number of walkers riot, you need to make noise and shift their attention away."

Daryl nodded. The volatile hothead had calmed down a bit too.

"Also, watch your brother. Don't let him get carried away." Caesar pointed at Merle.

Merle looked defiant, but what he didn't expect was Daryl seriously answering, "Okay, I'll watch him."

Merle's previously indignant expression immediately transformed into mockery. He stepped forward and threw an arm around Daryl.

"Hey, little brother, you sure you can watch me?"

Daryl glanced at him. "Don't worry. My archery is very good. Shooting your ass with a crossbow bolt is very simple."

Hearing this, Merle's face changed slightly. He subconsciously performed a sphincter-clenching motion.

Everyone immediately laughed. The serious atmosphere before battle eased slightly.

"Alright, alright." After everyone had laughed enough, Caesar saw several walkers emerge from an alley nearby.

"Morales, take two people and handle that."

Morales's entire face was covered by his helmet. He responded in a muffled voice, turned to beckon two people, and walked toward the walkers.

"Okay, let's finish quickly." Caesar's expression returned to seriousness. "Me, Morales, T-Dog—we're responsible for the assault."

"In a moment, Glenn, before you go in, our squad will move forward to attract most of the walkers' attention."

"You need to find the right moment and charge in. Don't get attached to fighting. Don't brawl with walkers. Enter inside at maximum speed. Then seal and lock the market shut. Quickly find where food is stored."

"After finding it, notify me via walkie-talkie."

"Then I'll lead team members to lure all walkers away. You, Daryl, Merle—you'll support Glenn's teams."

"Drive all vehicles to the market entrance, then quickly move the food."

Caesar understood in his heart—first combat, then moving large quantities of food, all while avoiding gunfire as much as possible.

This was an arduous task.

"Move out!!!"

In front of the market was a wide plaza. Perhaps when the apocalypse broke out, many people were panic-buying food in the market.

Someone in the crowd was infected with the virus and suddenly fell ill, madly infecting others. This caused the entire market to fall completely.

The plaza had quite a few shopping carts. Most shopping carts were piled high with things.

Caesar led Morales, T-Dog, and several team members to one side of the plaza.

Morales's gaze was immediately attracted by those dazzling shopping carts in the plaza. He licked his lips. "So much food here! Just looking makes me hungry."

Previously at camp, food sources were limited. They could often only barely fill their stomachs. Morales's mouth had long since grown tasteless.

T-Dog wasn't much better. His gaze fixed tightly on several shopping carts piled with sweet snacks.

Snickers, chocolate—these were T-Dog's favorites.

The other team members were the same.

Caesar smiled and patted them. "Focus. We're about to begin the operation."

After speaking, Caesar turned to look at walkers wandering the plaza. "But don't worry. When we return tonight, we'll be able to eat."

Caesar watched the second hand on his watch rotate.

Ding—

The faint sound of the hand moving reached the agreed time.

Caesar patted his own chest and shouted, "Action, begin!"

Immediately, several people followed Caesar.

Everyone in Caesar's squad wore uniform attire. Their builds were large, hands holding cold weapons still bearing blood traces.

Caesar roared, "CHARGE!"

His body crouched slightly, fists clenched and arms bent. Caesar's whole body exerted force. With a riot shield as his battering ram, he slammed into the walker horde.

Morales and T-Dog flanked Caesar's sides, pushing him forward.

The squad charged like raging bulls into the walker herd, sending over a dozen walkers flying in succession.

This immediately triggered a walker riot.

Team members' legs exerted force, desperately pushing forward. The formation kept charging.

Walkers brushing past grabbed at riot gear but found no purchase, causing no damage to the protective equipment.

Caesar gritted his teeth and charged forward.

More and more walkers were struck in front. Gradually, the accelerating formation slowed to steady speed, then later, decelerated.

The moment they stopped, Caesar didn't hesitate. His large hand flung away the riot shield.

It swept aside several walkers on his flank.

Caesar's objective had been achieved. All walker attention in the plaza had focused on the group.

Caesar pulled out his hand axe and viciously hacked forward several times.

For a moment, severed hands and heads flew everywhere, blood spattering. Caesar's face mask was somewhat blurred.

Caesar shouted, "Retreat!"

"Fall back!!!"

The charging corridor hadn't closed yet. Walkers behind hadn't completely surrounded them. This was Caesar's group's path to survival.

Morales's ears filled with Caesar's shouting. Holding a fire axe in hand, he also hacked wildly, likewise shouting loudly, "Retreat!"
