Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Clearing Out

Chapter 44: Clearing Out

VROOOOM—

The truck's roar was like a beacon in the night, especially conspicuous.

Several walkers stumbled out of the alley, then were immediately smashed aside, slamming into nearby walls, their flesh and blood forming murals.

The truck's power was far beyond what flesh could resist. Even walkers caught under the tires were crushed into chunks after being run over, completely unable to stop the convoy's advance.

Soon, the convoy reached the CDC.

The truck's brute force cleared a passage suitable for vehicles.

The convoy's pickups positioned on the flanks, combat members pulled out weapons and rushed up to eliminate walkers.

Merle laughed hoarsely, riding his motorcycle straight into a walker, trapping it under the wheels. The rear wheel spun at high speed, forcibly grinding away a layer of the walker's head.

After crushing a walker to death, Merle stopped the bike, pulled out a large machete, and casually hacked a walker to death.

Walkers began surging from both sides. Crossbow bolts flew through the air. Merle didn't need to look back to know it was Daryl's crossbow.

He didn't even defend his back, charging wildly into the walker horde.

Each member of Merle's team had caught Merle's ferocious aura, laughing madly as they charged with him.

On the other side, team members were fully equipped with reinforced riot gear. They threw themselves into the walker horde, enthusiastic about slashing left and right, not needing to worry about teammates at all.

Each of them was like a reef battered by ocean waves, standing immovable under the horde's impact.

Among them was an especially tall, imposing figure holding a fire axe. With each swing, a swath of walkers fell.

Most walkers weren't even killed by the axe blade—instead, they had their heads smashed apart by the axe handle.

That tall, imposing figure was Caesar.

The walker numbers were substantial and endless. After loosening up his body, Caesar turned and killed his way back to the convoy.

Carrying heavy killing intent, Caesar found Rip in the lead vehicle.

"Rip, get the walkie-talkie. Tell Jenner and Tate inside to open the door for us."

Caesar patted the lead truck's door, turning to look at his own team fighting like berserkers and Merle's team fighting with agility.

"Daryl, tell your team to use guns and finish off the walkers quickly."

"We're going inside!"

Caesar walked toward Daryl, shouting at him, then walked toward his own team members. "Everyone grab your guns. Kill all the walkers for me."

He himself picked up a gun and opened fire on the horde.

"Yes, boss!"

"Got it, got it!"

"Hehe, I'm gonna shoot you dead, you filthy, stinking mud piles."

"Kill them! Kill them!"

"..."

Amid roars, gunfire was incessant.

On both sides of the convoy, several fire points crossed their fire, forcibly blocking the walker tide and even pushing it back considerably.

...

CDC, underground level two, central control room.

Watching Caesar's team unleash such powerful combat strength, Jenner was dumbfounded. He'd seen the world and witnessed many elite American soldiers.

But a force displaying such powerful combat capability in the apocalypse—it turned out to be this ragtag apocalypse militia he was seeing now.

Jenner's expression was full of disbelief.

Never mind Jenner—even Rick and Lori watching the monitors nearby didn't look much better. They were extremely shocked.

Rick couldn't imagine what had happened these past few days. Just a few days ago, Rick and his group had been in the same team, and they'd seen absolutely no sign of so many skilled fighters in the convoy.

Most had been afraid to fight walkers, their eyes full of fear and worry.

But now it was completely different. Their spirit was much better. Not only did they dare to fight walkers, they could even inflict heavy casualties on them.

Lori could vaguely make out Carol and Andrea's figures in the surveillance footage. She covered her mouth, unable to believe why they would fight walkers. Wouldn't it be better to hide behind the team?

Actually, Caesar hadn't required non-combatants like Carol and Andrea to participate in combat. It was just that the team's slaughter of walkers had boosted all members' courage.

Even Carol, currently still developing, had killed several walkers. Now with the main walker force blocked by the combat personnel up front, a few walkers were let through for practice.

Not dangerous but able to train combat ability—Carol naturally wouldn't miss the opportunity.

She wore thick clothing with protection on her neck, wrists, and ankles. Carol held a dagger and suddenly crashed into a walker's embrace while using the momentum of her charge to viciously stab upward.

Carol straightened up, forcefully twisted and pulled out the dagger. The walker's black blood instantly scattered across the ground.

Carol gasped heavily. Her strength was insufficient. She could only borrow the power of running to help kill walkers. Her technique grew increasingly skilled. Walkers couldn't even grab her twice before being taken down.

She couldn't help but look at Andrea nearby. Andrea was physically strong, even stronger than many men.

Andrea could kick a walker away with one foot, ride on top of it and kill it. Her combat was also very good—several corpses lay on the ground.

Still need to eat more, grow stronger, so I can protect Sophia.

Carol looked at her own slender arms and thought.

Then another walker attacked. Carol used the same trick again, falling back into slaughter.

Just after Rip notified them, a few minutes later.

Rip stuck his head out of the truck and shouted loudly, "Caesar, the door's about to open."

"Get in the vehicles!"

Caesar emptied the magazine's bullets. His nose and mouth were full of gunpowder smell. He turned and walked toward the convoy while shouting to nearby teammates, "All killed to your heart's content, right?"

"Let's go, get in the trucks!"

"Hahaha!"

Dust rose from the ground. Sand trickled from sandbags. Floor tiles cracked. Countless lifeless walker corpses lay atop them.

The entire military base in front of the CDC looked like it had just experienced a war—corpses strewn everywhere.

Creak—

The CDC's garage door opened. The garage door was much wider than the small door Rick's group had used—even trucks could easily enter.

Rip's truck entered first. Daryl and Merle's motorcycles immediately followed into the garage. Both men held guns raised, surveying the interior.

The pickups also quickly entered. Windows wide open, you could see dark gun barrels inside, still carrying traces of sulfur smell.

Finally came the supply trucks loaded with various materials and food, plus some family vehicles.

The convoy's lights illuminated the dim underground parking garage. You could vaguely see quite a bit of blood and combat traces in the lot.

Caesar sat in the truck and heard two gunshots in the distance.

Before Caesar could ask in confusion, the Dixon brothers on motorcycles came over.

"Boss, just two little walkers, still sleeping!"

Merle rested his gun on his shoulder. Blood spatter dotted his smiling face.
